“Are you sure you don’t want me talking to the suspect?” Bennett asked.

Reesa peered at him. “Talk?” Bennett grinned and added, “I think we need to make him a little more…”

“Scared for his life,” I chimed in. Reesa nodded. “Can I offer a suggestion?”

“Of course. What is it?” she asked.

“He feels safe because you have guards on him right now. What if he didn’t know that? What if you had one of the nurses let it slip that it’s nice not having the guards at the door anymore?” I suggested.

“We can’t remove them. What if he tries to escape?” she asked, stunned.

“I said tell him they are gone, not take them away. Just out of his view. Hey, he doesn’t have to be the only one doing the lying,” I smiled.

Bennett chuckled. “I like the way you think. It could work.”

It was a rarity that Bennett agreed with me. Now was Reesa going to?

“We’ll give it a shot, but I don’t want to put this on a nurse. I’ll have my husband deliver the news to him. Finn already hates his nurses being in that room any longer than they need to in fear he might do something,” she said.

“He’s restrained. He’s not going anywhere,” Bennett said.

Not alive without our consent.

“I didn’t know Finn spoke your language enough to pull that off,” I said.

Reesa sighed. “He is learning, but that is a good point. It wouldn’t do us any good if he didn’t say it properly.”

“Then it’s back to a nurse.” She reluctantly gave in and I turned to Bennett, “You don’t happen to have anyone on your team that would pass for a Tabiqian nurse, do you?”

“Unfortunately, no.”

Reesa got up and said, “Then I guess I will go speak to my husband and inform him of our plan. I’m sure he has a nurse that he feels would be able to do this. I’ll ask him to make the suspect is told about the guards shortly.”

“Stress that it must be someone he trusts. If the guy figures out this is all a lie, then we won’t be able to get him to talk,” I warned. Even though the guards will be close by and still monitoring everybody going in and out, it will be for nothing if he knows what’s really going on.

“Oh, we will. Just not in a way Finn or Reesa would approve of,” Bennett stated firmly. “No way in hell am I going to sit back and let his boss or partner abduct another girl.”

“And I don’t want to add to the list of families that already are struggling with the pain of not knowing where their daughter is,” I said.

Reesa nodded. “As I said, we are all on the same side.”

She left the office and I turned to Bennett and asked, “Are you really just going to wait out and watch what the guy does next?”

“Hell no! I’ve got my men out right now watching everyone he is known for associating with. We are also still looking for Janelle. We still have no idea if she is on the island or not.”

Or alive.

“Then I’ll let you get back to what you do, and I’m going to the resort.”

“That’s right. Reesa has ordered you to getcloseto Kinsley. Didn’t look as though you were opposed to her request, not that I can blame you. Kinsley is an attractive woman. Just don’t let that cloud your judgment. We really need to know if she can be trusted or not,” Bennett reminded me.

“The only thing she is to me is an employee,” I replied before leaving him standing in the office. But that didn’t mean I hadn’t noticed how beautiful she was. Even when she forced her stern serious look on her face, I could see past it all and wonder what she’d look like if she smiled.

Damn it. How am I going to get close without getting too close?

When I arrived at the resort I went up to her room and knocked on the door. It took a minute, but she opened the door. Her hair was tussled, and she was wearing a tank top and a pair of silky shorts.

“Is everything okay, Draven?” she asked. It was.“I wasn’t expecting to see you until tomorrow.”
