“Sorry. Didn’t mean to wake you. I was just checking to see if you were able to settle in. If you needed anything.”Like a bathrobe, or a bra.It was taking everything for me not to look at her nipples that were taught and teasing me. My cock ached for attention as much as those sweet nipples were. Damn it. How could someone look so damn sexy without even trying?

This is the kind of woman that could have a man fall onto one knee.

It was a good thing I wasn’t that kind of guy. I could appreciate her curves, and still enjoy my life as a bachelor.

“I’m fine, thanks. Did you want to come in and update me on what transpired after I left?” she asked.

I could feel my cock throb with need pleading with me to say yes and then pull her into my arms, kick the door shut, and kiss her until her knees were weak. Probably what Bennett anticipated I’d do. But nope.I’m going to be professional. Even if it kills me.

“No. I have a few calls I need to make. But I wanted to make sure you had my number in case there was an emergency.” I reached into my pocket and pulled out my wallet. I tugged out a business card and handed it to her. Before my wallet closed, my emergency condom slipped out and fell on the floor.

Really? What the fuck.

I heard a very pleasant sound. Kinsley giggled. When I looked back at her, she had a huge smile on her face. I had been right. She was even more beautiful than I’d thought.

Grinning, she said, “I think the business card will suffice.”

Bending down I picked the foil packet off the floor and slipped it back in my wallet. I needed to change the subject before I forgot why I was there. “Did you ever get something to eat?”

“Yes, I did. And then I took your advice and decided to take a nap. Hence my PJs. Not a very professional attire for a meeting,” she stated.

“How about we meet for breakfast in the morning? I’m in suite 112. I’ll have it brought to my room and we can talk then,” I suggested.

Her eyes widened. “Don’t they have a restaurant available?”

“They do, but I’d rather no one overhear what we discuss. I’ll see you at nine in the morning. Rest up. We have a lot of information to cover tomorrow.”

I turned and headed back down the hallway and hoped that she had been too tired to have noticed how horny I was. The last thing I needed was for her to call Damien and tell him how unprofessional I was. He already had enough concerns about how I was going to handle Kinsley working for me.

Fuck it. If she does, and leaves, then my problems all leave with her, and I can go back to doing what I like. Working alone.

CHAPTER5

Kinsley

The one good thing about such a time zone difference was when I couldn’t sleep, back home they were awake. The only problem was everything I wanted to talk about, I couldn’t. Not about the case, anddefinitelynot about how my boss showed up at my door with a boner. I know I had looked like I just rolled out of bed, and that’s because I had. There was nothing sexy or hot about my appearance. Heck, I had even looked in the mirror afterwards and my hair looked as though birds had been trying to nest in it. But I wasn’t ignorant either. I was well aware of the fact that the wind blows and a man gets an erection.

Not sure who was more embarrassed when that condom fell out of his wallet. His expression said it was purely innocent, but the timing was impeccable. If Diana even knew the thoughts that had run through my head, she’d never let up on it. She could take an innocent look between a man and a woman and start planning their wedding and how many children they’d have. Funny, because she was still single and never wanted to plan her own future.

With so little left to talk about, I had told her all about the flight, what the resort looked like, and how I napped or tried to, my afternoon away.

“Sounds like your first day wasboring,” Diana said. “I mean, you got from being an FBI agent to this? It sounds more like a vacation than a job. Maybe I should apply,” she laughed.

Diana couldn’t be in the FBI or anyplace else that required her to keep a secret. It was not her strong point. People I didn’t even know, knew that I was in the FBI and asked me questions that I couldn’t answer. Or better yet wasn’t allowed to. But Diana would talk to a stranger on the subway and discuss her entire day’s itinerary. I tried explaining to her so many times how dangerous that could be. That one day a predator might use that information to bring harm to her. Diana’s reply was that I was paranoid because of my job. No. I wasn’t ignorant of what really went on because of my job.

It was best to let her believe what she wanted to. “Usually, your first day at a new job is boring. There is nothing for you to do but listen and learn. You of all people should know that. You’ve had plenty of them,” I reminded her.

“Hey. I get bored easily. Changing jobs every year or so keeps things exciting,” she said confidently. “And why would I want to stay someplace I dreaded going to every day?”

Because it pays your bills and keeps a roof over your head?

Here I was thinking logically again, and Diana just wanted excitement. It was funny that we were such good friends when we were also so different. I tried to keep her safe and she reminded me that I couldn’t work all the time and I must remember to have fun.

Right now, I was going to have some fun teasing her. “Keep it up Diana, and you’re going to run out of places to hire you.”

It didn’t have the effect I thought it would. In a serious tone, she replied, “Already thought about that and I decided I’ll open my own business.”

There were people who were self-motivated and driven enough to run their own businesses. Diana liked to hit the snooze button too many times and had been late to work often.Love you, but you’re not entrepreneur material.
