“Shaun?”

“He is a Henderson. They take turns coming to the resort and monitoring how things are going. Alex and his wife Ziva spend the most time here because they reside in Tabiq but are traveling for the next few months.”

“I didn’t know any of the Hendersons lived here.” I’d done some basic research on them. They were known for being some very savvy businessmen, which only made me question what the hell they were doing in Tabiq.

“His wife is from Tabiq, and he opted to make this his home.”

He was the one Henderson that I couldn’t find any information on. Was he the one that lived off his daddy’s fortune? James Henderson had built one heck of an empire before he passed away many years ago. I was surprised any of them were as driven as they were since they were all born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

“So now he just enjoys the island life,” I prodded.

“No. He works.”

“At the resort?” I pushed.

“This falls under the confidential agreement you signed. But he is an author. Writes under a pen name.”

“Wow. Now that’s not something I would’ve guessed,” I admitted. I so badly wanted to know his pen name. Maybe I’ve read his books. But wasn’t really something I’d done much of since I went to college. And although I knew there were men who wrote romance books, I couldn’t picture a Henderson doing so.

Draven poured us each a cup of coffee and I realized that we had totally gotten off topic. “Seems as though there is only one way to solve my issue.” He looked puzzled. “You’ll need to take me.”

“Shopping? You’re serious?” I nodded. He ran his hand through his hair and then gave in. “Fine. Let’s eat and get going.”

I bit my lip trying to hide my smile. “Don’t worry, I will make it quick. Just grab a few things that you believe are…appropriate for what you will have me doing.” Still didn’t really know what that meant, but hopefully I’d know it when I saw it.Just not another suit.

“Good.”

“And what will that be exactly?” Perfect time to broach the subject.

He grabbed a fork but before taking a bite of his egg benedict he said, “You’ll be joining me while I meet with the mothers or sisters who are looking for their missing family members.”

“And you, I mean we, are investigating this instead of the local law enforcement?” During our travels yesterday I saw vehicles marked police.

“Yes. These are what I guess you’d call cold cases. And even though Tabiq had their own investigators, they won’t speak to them about this. Hell, I’m not getting much out of them myself. That’s where you come in. I need you to help me get them to talk.”

“What type of information are you hoping to get? Do you think they had anything to do with the disappearance of the family members?” It was more common than people thought back home. If not family, it was a close friend. Made me sick how people seemed to hurt the ones they love most.

“Not in this circumstance. It unfortunately was a common practice for girls eighteen and a little older to…be taken and not seen again. It stopped several years ago and…”

“Until now,” I corrected him. “The girl that is missing is eighteen. I don’t believe that is a coincidence.”

“Neither do I. But until there is any proof, we cannot risk instilling fear in the people of Tabiq.”

“Why not warn them that theremaybe a problem? Isn’t that better than the alternative?” I hated the thought that there could be more than one girl missing.

Once again, he was battling over what to tell me.How about the truth?

“If the Tabiqian people believe that there is a problem, they are going to believe it is because we are here.”

“Us? You and me?” I asked, puzzled.

“No. Yes. I mean all foreigners. They have very little trust in us. It has gotten better over the years, but it is a slow process. It wouldn’t take much for a major setback and everything that the Hendersons and the Reesa have been working for would be lost,” he explained.

I didn’t understand why they would blame foreigners if it was something that had been happening even before the Hendersons had come and built their resort here. What am I missing? What isn’t he telling me?

I’d learned that asking questions wasn’t always the best way to learn the answers. Sometimes you must be quiet and just sit back and watch. What you want to know usually reveals itself. If it didn’t, then I would have to change how I did things.

Maybe I shouldn’t go shopping with Draven.
