I went to the lobby, still dripping wet, and asked, “Could you please bring a message up to Miss Beck's room for me.”

“Of course, Mr. Blaze.”

She handed me a piece of paper and a pen. I had to think about what I wanted to say.

KINSLEY, MY PHONE IS DEAD. YOURS PROBABLY IS TOO. I NEED TO KNOW YOU’RE OKAY. CALL MY ROOM WHEN YOU ARE READY TO TALK.

DRAVEN

Sounded cheesy and not really what I wanted to say. If I put what I really wanted, I’d scare her.

Damn it, Kinsley. Don’t shut me out.

I never knew it could physically hurt to worry about another person. What the hell was this all about?

Fuck. I’m falling for her.

I had no idea what I was supposed to do with this. It was a new feeling. And since she was like no one else I’d dated before, I knew I would probably fuck it up.

“Mr. Blaze, do you want me to still deliver the note?” she asked, holding out her hand.

I looked back at the note, then tore it up. “No. I’ve changed my mind.”

What she wanted right now was her space. I’d give it, but not for long. If I didn’t hear from her in the morning, I was going to knock on her door until she answered.

I might have wanted to give you a goodnight kiss, but nothing matters more than knowing that you’re okay.

CHAPTER13

Kinsley

“If you stop crying, I might actually be able to understand what you’re saying,” Diana said, trying to console me.

I didn’t Facetime her. And now, as I ugly cried, I was glad about that.

“I…I told you. I fell in a pool,” I stated again.

“That I heard, but I don’t know why you’re crying. Did you get hurt?” she asked.

“Diana, Draven was with me,” I snapped.

“And you’re crying about that? Heck, I would think that was a good thing. Unless you didn’t fall, and he pushed you. Even then, I wouldn’t be crying. I’d be pissed off.”

“I’m going to hang up if you don’t stop and just…listen,” I warned.

That was enough. Diana quieted down and said, “Sorry. You know I love you. I was just trying to…cheer you up. Guess it wasn’t working.”

“No, it wasn’t. You don’t understand. Draven could’ve seen my ear.”Or lack of one.

“Okay. So, he sees your scars. Is that really such a big deal?” she asked.

“Yes. Yes, it is,” I replied, bitterly.

“Would you like to explain to me why? He’s just your boss. What does it matter what he thinks of your ear? Unless…”

“Unless what?” I asked.

“Unless he’s not just your boss anymore. Did you…kiss him?”
