“You sent him away?” I asked.

“Hard to believe, but yes. We weren’t married yet and there was a conflict taking place in Tabiq. His being here placed him in danger. I guess you could say that I sent him back to Ireland.”

I was shocked. Finn didn’t strike me as a man who’d have left even if she told him to. “I can’t believe he went.”

“It wasn’t his decision. It was mine. Trust me, Finn was furious with me. But I did what was best for him, and for Tabiq. As you can tell, we worked it out and eventually he returned,” she said. “The rest is history.”

“Just because it worked out for you, doesn’t mean it will for Draven and me. We’re different,” I said.

“Okay. So, you don’t love him?” she asked.

I hadn’t uttered the words out loud yet. “Yes, I do. But…”

“And he obviously loves you,” she cut in.

“We haven’t discussed our feelings,” I corrected her.

“Doesn’t change the facts. His actions reflect his feelings. I would say he loves you very much.”

Fine. He loves me. “If you love someone, then you stop and listen to what they are trying to tell you. He didn’t even give me a chance to explain why I didn’t need to leave. Instead, he told Bennett to get the jet ready. It wasn’t even a conversation between us.” That is what infuriates me the most. I felt…dismissed.

If Draven hadn’t been lying in a hospital bed, I would’ve spoken my mind right then. He wouldn’t have liked what I had to say, either. After what we had shared, and how close we had become, he just shut me out.

I shared the most painful part of my life with you. And yet you still don’t know me. Trust me. How can I believe you love me?

“Kinsley, may I please speak honestly to you?” Reesa asked.

That meant I wasn’t going to like what she was about to say. But we’d become friends, and I didn’t have to agree with her, even if I chose to listen to what she had to say.

“There aren’t many people I would say yes to, but you are one of the few,” I replied.

“Good. Let’s talk about all the wonderful things you have done and started in Tabiq,” she said.

Oh, good. Not about Draven. That’s a nice change.

“I’d like that,” I said. “How are things going?”

“They are not. That’s the problem. Draven is out of commission for a little bit and you’re not here. Everything has come to a standstill.”

“I thought Finn was going to work with Logan on getting professionals in Tabiq. What happened to that?” I questioned.

“Your guess is as good as mine. He’s tried calling Logan several times, but the man is so busy with patients that he hasn’t had a chance to talk. Guess the only way Finn’s going to get time with him is to get sick, and I’m not allowing that to happen,” she said.

I’m a patient of his. I could book an appointment.

There was a huge problem with that. No one knew that I was his patient. Logan would also be very upset if I lied and scheduled an appointment saying I had a medical issue and it wasn’t one.

“Would you like me to reach out to him and see if he will see me?” I offered.

“No. You have enough going on right now,” she said.

“Like what? I sit in my apartment and stare at the four walls. The only thing I had going was the job in Tabiq. You know what happened to that. I got fired. So let me do this,” I said firmly.

“Do you really believe that Draven fired you?” she asked, ignoring my statement.

“Yes. I was in the room. He said, Kinsley, you’re fired. There was no misunderstanding about that,” I said sarcastically.

“Please don’t take this the wrong way,” Reesa started.
