And this is what I get when I do decide to answer my phone. I just can’t win, can I?

I wish it would’ve been Draven who had called. I wouldn’t mind having him on my couch.

I just want him back in my life. God, I miss him.

Never thought I’d fall in love with my boss. And never thought my boss would fire me because he loved me back.

Damn, love is hard.

CHAPTER20

Draven

So much was riding on this. I still had no idea what to say, but this couldn’t keep going on like this. The longer we didn’t speak, the more likely we wouldn’t ever talk again.

I knew she was mad at me. But if I could just explain, then maybe she’d forgive me.Maybe we could go back to how we were.

It was now or never.

I knocked on the door and waited, flowers in hand. There was a dog barking like crazy on the other side. Kinsley didn’t have any pets. I must be at the wrong apartment. I looked at the number again.

Should’ve called first.

I chuckled to myself. Calling and texting had the same result. She ignoring me. I wasn’t sure flying out here to apologize in person was going to have any more luck. But I wasn’t giving up.

I knocked again, and more barking.

Then I heard her voice. “Marley, go lay down.”

My heart pounded just knowing she was so close. It’d be nicer if there wasn’t a closed door between us. I knocked louder.

She finally opened the door, “Draven? What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to see you,” I said.

“What I mean is…I thought you just got released from the hospital this morning,” she stated.

I cocked my brow. “How do you know that?” The only people who knew were Bennett, Finn, and Shaun. None of them had been in contact with Kinsley.

“I…ah…a little birdie told me?” she shrugged.

Thanks, Finn. I think you forgot that women stick together.

“Did the birdie also tell you I was flying here?” I asked.

Kinsley shook her head. “If the birdie did, I wouldn’t be standing here babysitting Diana’s puppy.”

“If I’d have known, I’d have brought him some doggie treats. Instead, I just have flowers and chocolates. Lots of chocolate,” I smiled. It was her favorite, and yeah, I needed the extra points right now. “Do you think I can come in?” I asked, still standing in the hallway.

“Sorry. Yes, come in. But I’m warning you, I’m not responsible if Marley starts humping your leg,” she warned.

I laughed and closed the door. Not the action I was hoping for.

She put Marley down and he came over and sniffed me, but he ran away and hopped up on the couch.

“These are for you,” I said, handing her the large bouquet of three dozen red roses.

She took them from me and said, “Thank you. But did you say something about chocolate?”
