“S-she went in your room, King. I swear I didn’t touch her.”

“Don’t ever touch her, nigga.” I let him go with a forceful shove and he nodded, straightening his shirt. I knew I looked like a fucking maniac. I felt like one.

If I was being honest, nothing was right after the last night I was with Jupiter. It was when Sumo walked out. It was when I left her sleeping in my bed when I wanted to lay beside her and hold her.

I stalked back to my room and heard Truck tell everyone to mind their fucking business and get back to partying. When I peered inside, there she was, sitting on my bed, facetiming Jay.

“He was all over me. I’m just glad King wasn’t here,” she said, tucking hair behind her ear.

“Because you know King would have killed him,” I said, walking in and sitting beside her on the bed. “I should have killed him.”

“What the hell?” Juju blurted. “I thought you went out with Pretty Boy.”

“I did. I’m back.” I finished the liquor in my cup and sat it down on the nightstand.

“Oh…Pretty Boy is there?” Jay asked, her expression perking up.

“He is. You wanna come through?” I asked her, a drunken smile on my lips now that I was beside Juju.

“What? Come to…your apartment?” Jay asked, color creeping in on her cheeks.

“Yeah. We’re partying. Come on, Doctor Jay.”

“My sister doesn’t do kickbacks like this, King.” I took Juju’s phone and ignored her fussing.

“Let me show you what your best friend Pretty Boy is up to.” It was a devilish inclination but shit, I had to pay him back for telling me the truth about myself. I carried the phone in my hand walking past random people whose faces I wouldn’t remember later.

“Here he is,” I said, finding him in the kitchen with three girls laughing at his jokes.

“Oh, he’s busy.” She cleared her throat and I remembered she wasn’t Jupiter. She was soft and vulnerable on the outside.

“Is that…Jay?” Pretty Boy said, moving through the girls to get a closer look. “Nah, I’m not busy, doll face. Never for you. Let me come see you.”

“No, it’s fine, Pretty Boy. I don’t want to disturb your Friday night. Have fun.”

“You at work?” Pretty Boy asked her, taking the phone in his hands. “I see the hospital shit behind you. I’m on my way.”

“No, really. Don’t show up here,” she said shaking her head. She didn’t know my brother like I did though. He was on his way to see her.

“I’ll see you in a little while.” Pretty Boy tossed up the peace sign and left just like that.

“Yeah, I should have told you…he doesn’t let up. Y'all have fun.” I smiled.

“King! Oh my god, don’t let him come over here,” Jay squeaked. She was the polar opposite of her sister in every way. So soft-spoken and sweet.

“I can’t hold him back, sweetheart. He wants to see you.”

“I look like shit. He can’t see me like this in scrubs. I’ve been at work for twelve fucking hours.” She made that same little squeak noise again when she spoke. I couldn’t help laughing at it. She was literally like a little squeak toy.

“You look fine.” And she really did. Jay was beautiful. Before Jupiter blew through my world, Jay would have been the type I thought I wanted. Sweet and soft to counter my hard and evil. I knew better now though.

When I walked back into the bedroom, Jupiter was using another phone and texting furiously, her brows knitted and her teeth working on her bottom lip. She looked up when I walked in and put the phone under her leg.

“Tell your sister you’ll call her later,” I said, trying to maintain my composure. That brown liquor was in me though and it turned me into a monster.

“O…kay,” Ju said, nerves in her brown eyes.

Fuck, why was she so pretty? Why was she soeverything?
