“I was so scared,” I whispered, sliding next to him in bed. I knew he couldn’t hear me but I had to get the words out. “I thought I was going to lose you and my entire world tilted.” I wiped my tears and laid my head on his chest, content to hear his heart beating strong and healthy. “I didn’t realize how much I love you, King. You’re such a bastard but…I love you.”

“You’re annoying as fuck and I still love you,” he said, his eyes still closed. My head popped up and I gasped.

“You bitch ass nigga, you were awake!” I squealed, shoving his head to the side. He cracked a devastatingly gorgeous smile and reached for me.

“Call me another bitch ass nigga and see what happens.”

“What’s going to happen exactly? You can barely walk, King.”

“I can call someone to handle your little ass. Yo, Pretty Boy!” He called loud and clear. He sounded good. Strong.

“What’s good, King?” Pretty Boy came around the corner in a white tank top and a pair of basketball shorts. I could kind of see why all the girls fawned all over him. I averted my eyes once I saw exactly why all the girls were all over him.

Okay, Pretty Boy.

I silently approved of him for Jay because let’s be honest…she needed her back broken and Pretty Boy had the tools.

“Handle this one. She’s talking shit about me while I’m sleeping. Normally, I’d handle her but I’m incapacitated at the time.” He gestured to his wound.

“I’m not handling Ju the way you handle her. I’ll beat her ass though.” He dragged me out of bed by my ankle like a rag doll while I screamed with laughter.

Pretty Boy tossed me over his shoulder and I pounded on his back with my fists while he spun me around, making me dizzy. I was going to beat his ass when he sat me down.

The minute my feet hit the floor, I stumbled after him, hurling empty threats at his strong back. Little by little, my balance came back, and once I was normal? Oh, I hopped on that man’s back like a spider monkey.

“Yo, get your sister!” Pretty Boy shouted at Jay while she laughed on the couch.

“Looks like she’s your sister now too. You deal with it, Ricardo,” Jay said over the commotion.

“Look at this man getting rode like a fucking bronco,” Truck chuckled.

I leaned in and bit Pretty Boy’s shoulder and he growled at me. We were even. I hopped down and he chased me into the corner near the pool table. “You little fucker. You bit me.”

“You made me dizzy,” I countered.

“Even?” He asked, rubbing his shoulder.

“We’re even.” We shook on it and he poked my stomach, then started toward Jay.

“I told you, light skin men are evil,” I huffed. Pretty Boy ran up on me again, grabbing me from behind and spinning me in a circle so that I was dizzy again. “I hate you!” I laughed, stumbling back to King’s room.

“Love you too, Juju,” Pretty Boy called after me.

“Fuck you, Ricardo! You too, Truck. You left me hanging.”

“How did I get in this? I love all y'all,” Truck said from the kitchen. I sighed, looking at King as I climbed in bed beside him.

“You make them so happy, Ju,” King pointed out.

“You think so?” I laughed.

“When have I ever said something wrong? Come on now.”

“Jesus, you’re arrogant as fuck. Does it ever turn down with you?” I sighed, rolling my eyes.

“I’m a natural-born Leo, baby. The king is always in the motherfucking house. You know it too, that’s why you love me. That’s what you said, right, Ju? You love me?” He dragged the words out and I rolled my eyes hard.

“Fuck. You,” I said with a smile. “Did you hear that shit?”
