Holy shit.

King and I backed away from the door and went into the kitchen. Sure enough, in the living room were Jay’s shoes, and her hospital bag was tossed on the couch.

“So that niggadoeshave game. Okay,” King said, pulling open the freezer and grabbing the carton of ice cream. He knew me so well. He scooped out a bowl for us to share. We sat beside each other on the counter taking small spoonfuls.

“I’m so glad she’s getting the shit fucked out of her. She needed that,” I said, letting the cold strawberry ice cream slip down my throat.

“How you know she’s getting the shit fucked out of her? Are you in there?” King asked.

“No, but the way she’s moaning and the way that bed sounds…” I smirked and swung my feet back and forth.

Go, Pretty Boy.

“Stay out of their business,” King fussed.

“Aww, are you jealous because I’m rating Pretty Boy’s skills?” I couldn’t help poking at King. He was beautiful when he was pissed.

“No. You’re not fucking Pretty Boy, are you?”

“I’m not but I mean listening to the way he’s handling his business in there… I don’t know, King.” I said in a sing-song voice.

“Don’t fucking play with me, Jupiter.” He snarled, showing his straight white teeth. He hopped off the counter and stood between my legs, pulling me to the edge of the counter. “You want me to go in there and let Jay know you want to fuck her man?”

“He’s not her man…yet,” I countered, finishing the last scoop of ice cream in the bowl.

“Well, I amyourman, now. So stop all that shit about rating Pretty Boy’s skills.”

“You know damn well I don’t like light skin men,” I smiled, draping my arms around his shoulders and tipping my head to the side.

“I don’t know. I heard you fucked your way into the Legion of Kings.” He tugged my earlobe between his teeth. I punched him in the shoulder and he laughed. He actually laughed for the first time since losing Truck.

“I didn’t fuck my way into the Kings. The guy in charge only likes submissive, quiet women.”

“Oh yeah? He’s missing out on your bad ass. Mouthy and all.” He touched my chin then slid his fingers over my tattoos. “Why the YSL tattoo?” He asked after kissing my throat.

“Yves Saint Laurent was the first big-girl purchase I ever made with my own money. I got a pair of classic black heels. It’s still my favorite brand to this day.” He stared at me, studying my eyes like he was compiling a plan.

My phone rang in the bedroom, and I hopped off the counter to grab it before it stopped. I rolled my eyes when I saw Marsh’s name pop up.

“What?” I answered putting the phone on speaker. King walked into the room after me and pulled me onto his lap.

“Hello to you too, Juju.”

“What do you want, Marsh?” I rubbed my forehead and blinked a few times when I heard Jay let out a loud squeal. King and I exchanged nauseated glances.

“I want to invite you and King to a benefit ball tonight. I know you’ve been having a rough time since your friend got killed. I’m trying to help you out with that, by the way.”

“Yeah. I saw your handy work on Sumo. Thanks,” I said staring at the king of hearts charm on my wrist.

“You have my condolences, Juju,” he said, his voice somber.

“Uh-huh. Thanks.”

“You think you’ll be able to make it to the ball? I need to speak with King.” King squeezed my sides then nodded.

“I…guess so,” I said looking at King. He gave me a thumbs up and nodded.

“Great. I’ll text you the address. Bring King.”
