“No, but she’s not going to strike in public.”

“What else did you need? You asked for this meeting before you saw the Dearg Due.”

“I need a personal favor.”

Keirand I pulled up to The News Building and got out as Keir tossed the keys of his Mercedes to the valet.

We made our way up to the ninth floor. The elevator doors opened, and I led us down the hall, bypassing the nosy secretary and going straight into Richard Granger’s office.

“You can’t go in there,” a high-pitched voice screeched behind us.

Richard looked up sharply, shoving his knob back in his pants and pulling up his zipper. The young man on his knees stood up quickly, wiping his mouth. “What the fuck is going on?” Granger yelled, his face turning as dark red as a beetroot. “How dare you barge in here.”

“I’m so sorry, sir,” the secretary ran in behind us.

“Get out, Janet!” he screamed.

Janet did an about-face and left the office along with the young man. I shut the door behind them. “It seems Dickie I was wrong about you. It’s not the young girls you want. That’s all for show. It’s the young men we should be worried about. Does your boy wonder, Atterbury, know you’re grooming other men?”

“Who the fuck are you?” Spittle flew from his mouth.

“Your worst nightmare,” Keir said. “Your days of sexual harassment are over.”

“You’re with that little harlot?” he cried, looking at me. “She came on to me. She’s the whore.”

I drove my fist into his stomach. “Not another fucking word.”

He doubled over, falling to the ground and gasping for breath.

“Your boss Nicolette is a dear friend of mine,” Keir said. “This afternoon, you are going to turn in your letter of resignation on the grounds of plagiarism and sexual misconduct. Don’t try to deny it. We have proof. If you don’t, I’ll go to her myself and paint a much grimmer story. Do you understand?”

He nodded.

“I’m glad we could see eye to eye.” Keir turned to leave.

“Don’t tell Sam,” he wheezed. “He doesn’t know.”

“I could care less who you’re fucking, you bloody bastard.” I slammed the door behind me, heading towards Atterbury’s office.

“He’s not there. He’s gone back to Wales,” Janet said quickly.

“Great, I’ll see him there.”

“That was fun,” Keir said as we entered the elevator. “I forgot how much I enjoyed your company.”

I laughed. “I could say the same. Thank you for your help.”

“I’ll put in a good word to Nicolette for your lass.”

“She’s a good reporter. She would kill me if she thought I asked for a favor.”

“I understand. I’ll keep it on the down low.”

We headed outside, and the valet pulled up with Keir’s car. Getting in, we continued to my place.

“Be careful, Rhys. I know you understand the gravity of the situation. We can find a safe house for her if necessary. I will do the same for Evie when I feel it’s time.”
