“She won’t go.”

“Don’t give her a choice.”

“She has a mind of her own,” I said.

He pulled up to my building. “Call me if you need me.”

“I will,” I said, getting out. Thank you for your help today.”

“A regibus intus potential jacet,” he said.

“A regibus intus potential jacet,” I repeated, getting out.

I headed to the elevator, swiped my key, and pushed the button to go up. The doors of the elevator opened to my penthouse. Dafydd paced the foyer. His body was rigid and tight. Something was wrong.

“Where’s Navy,” I asked.

“She’s gone,” he said. “I turned my back for a moment getting out of the Land Rover, and by the time I got around to her side of the car, she had disappeared.”

A heaviness filled my chest as a sense of dread hit me. It was an emotion I wasn’t used to. “What the fuck do you mean she disappeared?” I asked. “I trusted you to keep her safe. And why the fuck aren’t you out there looking for her? Let’s go.”

“We should have a plan before we go out. Where do you think she would have gone in London?”

“I don’t know. Her flat.” But that was only if the red bloodsucker didn’t already have her.

“Then let’s go to her flat,” Dafydd suggested calmly.

He didn’t understand the actual danger she was in. “I don’t know where it is.”

My phone rang. It was the concierge desk. “What?” I answered.

“There is a Navy Bardot in the lobby asking to be let up to your place, Mr. Hughes,” the voice said. “Shall I send her up? She isn’t on your preferred list and doesn’t have an elevator key.”

“Yes, let her up.” My heart began to slow to a normal rate, and the fear I felt before turned to anger.

“She’s on her way up,” I said to Dafydd.

“Are you still heading back to Môr Haven this evening?”

“Yes.”

“Good. I’ll go make sure everything is in order with the flight crew.” He conveniently headed upstairs.

I stood there with my arms crossed over my chest, watching the light above the elevator doors blink as it climbed all forty-five floors until it reached the penthouse level and opened. Now, there would be hell to pay.

NAVY

Iknew Rhys would be upset, only I didn’t realize precisely how upset. He stood in front of me, glowering from the entrance hall. I considered pushing the button to head back down but decided against it. I was still a single girl, and he had no right to think he could control me.

“I needed a moment to think,” I said, passing by him as I headed into the living room.

He didn’t say anything.

“Do I look like a sad person to you?” I tried. “Maureen Davies said I looked like a sad person, and when I asked your dickhead of an assistant, he used the term morose.” I sat down on the couch, waiting for a response.

Still nothing.
