“Did you ever think that maybe there’s a bigger reason for this than just you? Have you even tried to figure out what’s inside you?”

“No, and I don’t care to.”

“Well, you better. If I were you, I would learn its name and how to control it, or you will spend the rest of your life with it controlling you.”

“Name? You’ve given yours a name?” he asked disgusted.

“It will tell you its name if you listen. Didn’t Keir explain any of this to you?”

“No, Keir gave me the amulet and left me on that bloody island to figure it out for myself. Three weeks later, he picked me up.”

“None of this matters anyway,” he said. “My life is ruined.”

“It does matter. We’ll be at war soon.”

“War?” Harry sounded surprised.

“We have an enemy. Someone who wants us dead.”

“That thing you warned us about.

“The Dearg Due.”

“Yes. That thing.”

“It’s a bloodthirsty vampire, and it’s already killed three of our members. Very powerful and very strong. If you’re not ready, she will get you too.”

“She?”

“Yes, she,” I said. “Come.”

“Where are we going?”

“I’ll show you.”

He followed me down to the beach. It was dark, and the waves crashed against the shore. “You need to figure out what makes you special. I saw those tusks and would hate to get too close to them.”

“What do you mean special?”

“Well, Keir can manipulate the water in the molecules around him. He can throw a person fifty meters without even touching them through the force in the air.”

“What can you do.”

“I can feel peoples’ emotions by touching them,” I called Vortigern to me, feeling the shift in my body.

Harrison backed up.

“I won’t hurt you,” I said. “Come on, call your beast. Show me your tusks.”

“I can’t call him,” he said. “He just appears.”

“You’ll need to be able to call him, and you’ll need to learn to suppress him, too.”

“And you can do that?” he asked.

“I can always call him, but suppressing can be harder, especially if I am near his lair.”

“Lair?”
