“I might pretend with others, but I won’t with you. I’ll give you all of me and hope that’s enough.”

“It will be more than enough.”

His face softened. “So sweet. I didn’t think we were good enough for you. I still don’t. But you are ours. If sweet lands in your life, you grab hold and do whatever is necessary to protect it.”

There was her fierce Grady. Mostly, he gave off a refined air. But there was a definite edge to him. Something that told her it would be dangerous to mess with him or come between him and something he wanted.

“So I agree you need a high chair,” Grady said.

“I don’t!” She leaned forward, nearly falling into his lap. Steele had to tighten his hold on her to keep her pressed against him.

“You nearly fell off your chair,” Grady pointed out.

“I did not. I just leaned over too far.”

“Uh-huh.” Grady picked up the knife and fork and started cutting up her food.

She gaped at him. No one had ever cut up her food that she could remember. Maybe when she was very young.

Then Grady held some up to his mouth and blew on it before pressing it to his lips. “Perfect. Open up.”

“I . . . you . . . you don’t have to feed me.”

“But I want to.” It was said simply, without arrogance. As though he knew he would get exactly what he wanted.

Whoa. These guys were something else.

“Do you want me to do choo-choo noises?” Grady asked.

“No!” She squirmed.

“I think that might be a lie,” Steele said. “Bad baby. We might need to punish you for lying.”

“It’s not a lie! Grady doesn’t have to do them!”

“That’s not the same as not wanting them,” Grady pointed out.

“I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.”

“A bit of knowledge for you,” Grady replied. “I very rarely do anything I don’t want to do. Now, open up for the choo-choo train.”

“That’s a good girl,” Steele praised as she ate the mouthful. “What a good girl you’re being for Daddy.”

She flushed with pride even though she hadn’t done anything remarkable. Damn, these scrambled eggs were good though. She reached out for her coffee mug, but Grady lightly slapped her hand away, then he held the cup up to her lips. Wow. It was perfect. He’d remembered from the diner yesterday how she liked her coffee?

Of course he had. Grady had a definite eye for detail. While Steele seemed like the big picture guy. Together . . . they were a fine-tuned machine.

She just hoped she kept that machine running smoothly, rather than putting a cog in it.

“What’s wrong, baby?” Steele asked. “You’ve gone all stiff.”

“I just . . . don’t want to do anything to ruin this. Us. Or the two of you. Please don’t let me do that.”

“Hey,” Grady said firmly. “I don’t know who taught you to think that way, that you could possibly mess anything up, but that’s not going to happen. There are three of us in this relationship. It’s not all on you. And there’s nothing you could do to ruin this except leave us. Understand?”

“Yes.”

“And we won’t let you do that,” Steele added. “Our job is to look after you, support you, hold you up when you’re feeling down. Cheer you on when you need it. Got me?”
