“It might. I might get the sickies from it.”

“If you do, then you never have to try it again,” Steele told her.

She sighed. Long and loud.

This was a huge imposition. But she guessed if Daddy really wanted her to risk her health to try something this yucky, then she had to be a good girl.

Picking up a chip, she took a delicate bite.

Oh God.

It was delicious.

“Daddy! Why haven’t you given this to me before?” She ate that one, then another. “These are sooo good. It’s a crime I haven’t eaten them before.”

“Is it?” Steele said with amusement.

“Uh-huh, Daddy.”

Grady walked over and set the lasagna down on the table. Then he reached for a kale chip.

Big. Mistake.

She smacked his hand away. “No!”

“Excuse me?” Grady asked.

“Not yours. Effie’s.”

“Effie has to share,” Grady told her.

“No!” She picked up the plate and held it to her chest. “Effie doesn’t wanna share.”

“Baby girl,” Steele said sternly. Although she thought she saw his lips twitch. “That’s not the way things work in this house. Be a good girl and let Grady have a chip.”

She gave Grady a disgruntled look. “One chip.”

“Effie, share,” Grady told her firmly.

She sighed. Long and loud. Very dramatically. She had to make her point.

But she let Grady have a kale chip.

Then she ate all the rest. And by the time she finished, she didn’t really feel like the lasagna. But Steele insisted on feeding her some.

And he made the choo-choo noises. So that was pretty funny.

Grady stood when they were finished and started to clear plates.

“Effie help.”

She stood, but both of them gave her a firm look.

“Effie will not help,” Steele said firmly. “You’re not allowed to carry around heavy things.”

“Plates aren’t heavy, Daddy.”

“They are for Little girls.”
