“All I’m asking is that you cut me some slack. We’re on the same team here. Team Bonnie.”

“We might be Team Bonnie but we’re on different pages.”

She blew out a frustrated breath. “We should make a pact. Today we don’t rehash the same argument. I’ve promised to keep an open mind, get to know Second Chance a bit, and you must agree to give me a chance.”

As much as he wanted to come up with a reason why he didn’t want to, logic told him she had a valid point. If he wanted her to get a birds’ eye view of what made Second Chance a great town then he needed to be welcoming. “I’ll agree to those terms.”

The feed store was a hustle and bustle of activity as trucks backed up to the loading dock.

"Want to come along?” Raven asked when he parked and shut off the engine.

“Yes, of course.”

They strode in through the glass doors together. He greeted his old buddy, Guy.

“Howdy, ma’am.” His buddy seemed a bit shy in the presence of the newcomer.

“Guy, this is Parker. Parker, Guy.” Raven gave a quick introduction.

“Hi.” She offered him a small wave but seemed very interested in a shelf of clearance items near checkout.

He clicked a few buttons on the computer. “You need to order more feed to be delivered, Ryder?”

“Nah, we’re good at Ryde Hard, but I need to order some feed for Bonner’s Farm.”

Guy clicked another button and read the list of what was usually ordered.

Raven pulled out his wallet and dropped down some cash. “I’ll reorder all that.”

“That’s not inexpensive,” Parker whispered to him.

“I’m going out to move the truck over to the loading bay,” he said. When she looked around her like she’d never been in a feed store before, he said, “You should look around.”

“If the items are anything like the smell I won’t be impressed.”

“You’ve never been in a feed store, right?”

“Lots of times,” she said casually. “I’m always looking for a…” she randomly picked up a small metal John Deere tractor. “One of these. Isn’t this a cute toy?”

He took it from her, flicked his finger over a button and a flame shot up from the smoke stack. “It’s a lighter.”

“I’m pretty good at finding my way around any store. This place can’t be much different than Nordstrom having a fifty percent off sale.”

“I don’t know what that is, but a feed store has a lot of hidden treasures.”

“Try me,” she said, her eyes sparkling.

“What do you mean?”

“Name something for me to find. I’ll find it.” She lifted her chin.

“Are you trying to prove something?” He liked this competitive side to her.

“I’m not good at milking a cow but I’m pretty good at scavenger hunts.” She twirled a piece of her hair around her knuckle. “Unless you’re afraid you can’t think of something hard enough.” She wagged her brows.

“Oh, so now it’s become a competition has it?”

She leaned in and stepped onto her tiptoes, placing her palm against his chest. Was she flirting? It felt like flirting, but then again maybe his imagination worked overtime. “I didn’t get to the top position in the company I work for by not being competitive.”
