“You would have enjoyed this more if you hadn’t thought you were better than me,” Komel hissed, dragging her back beneath him. “It’s a good thing I don’t particularly care how you’ll feel during or after I’m finished with you.” He leaned over her, his fetid breath hitting her neck.

Cordelia’s hair ruffled as an unnatural breeze floated right over her head, and then Komel’s weight was lifted right off of her. His oppressive presence was gone in an instant, and she couldn’t help but let out a trembling breath.

Komel shrieked in surprise from somewhere behind her and then she heard him gurgling. Other disgusting sounds rent the air before Cordelia had the strength to turn her head.

Her vision might have been messed up, whether from the blow to her head or from how shitty she was feeling overall, but Cordelia would never forget the shadow monster that had chased her through the woods a few weeks ago, nor the man beneath the shroud.

He had Komel’s throat in his grip, holding the male high in the air, choking the life from him.

Cordelia let out a small, relieved sob as the shadow monster roared into Komel’s face.

Ezul had come for her.

Chapter 10

Cordeliarolledontoherside. It took a hell of a lot longer than it would have if she didn’t feel like she was one more move away from puking her guts up or passing out.

Her head was reeling, her body was aching, and her heart was pounding in her chest from fear.

She’d just been assaulted. She had wanted to escape this place ever since being locked up here a week ago, but the harem had never posed a physical threat until now. Tears welled up in her eyes but she was too exhausted to cry. Too shocked.

At least the blistering pain spiraling throughout her womb seemed to have subsided. It had dropped off to a bearable ache as soon as Ezul had appeared.

Ezul, the giant monster made of shadows, who was now standing protectively between her and danger.

Thiswas the creature Cordelia remembered from her night of terror in the woods when she’d first met him.

Ezul had been made of shadows and mist when she’d left him in that leiling den, humanoid in appearance but terrifying and more monstrous than anyone she’d ever seen.

He’d been terrifying. But now? Now he was her savior, her lover, and her protector.

Electricity flared and pulsed all in the air all around him. He was massive and foreboding, his white eyes glowing with fury while he squeezed Komel’s neck tighter and tighter.

She watched in horrified awe as Ezul shook her assailant like a ragdoll. The guard hung several feet in the air in Ezul’s strong grip, legs flailing uselessly as he gasped for breath.

A guttural roar erupted from Ezul, dragging Cordelia’s focus back to the present. A current of lightning ran from the mist surrounding him to Komel’s neck in an endless stream of bright light. Komel began to writhe against Ezul’s shadowy grip, his body jerking and shaking. A pathetic, frightened whimper left her assailant, slowly increasing in volume.

Cordelia was so startled by the sound of Komel’s muted screaming, the whips of lightning, and the smell of burning flesh filling the room that she managed to bolt upright, scooting back and away from any possible danger, the adrenaline fueling her.

She knew Ezul was capable of many things, but electrocuting someone?

Her face flushed, remembering very distinctly what he’d done to her lady bits with his tongue. Ezul had literally shocked her then, but at the time it had been exciting and sexual. Carnal and exhilarating.

He hadn’t burned her body with his touch until her flesh was charred. How could something that caused such pleasure also cause such horror?

Guards and a few harem women burst into the room as the sound of electricity swelled, crackling around the two males.

Ezul’s mist wrapped around the other Aragnokan’s wrists and Cordelia heard bone snap seconds later. He released his hold on Komel, and the man dropped to the floor, crying out in pain as he cradled his broken wrists.

Mist swirled around Komel threateningly.

“You will touch what does not belong to you only once,” Ezul’s deep, disembodied voice hissed into the room.

A streak of red caught Cordelia’s eye and she turned in time to see Delilah skirting past the shouting guards. Sahin prowled protectively behind her, tendrils flaring out like whips to prevent anyone from getting too close to his mate.

Spotting Cordelia on the ground, Delilah rushed over and fell to her knees, reaching out for a hug.

“Don’t do that,” Cordelia whispered, her throat aching. She shied away from Delilah’s outstretched hands. “I’m sorry, something is wrong with me. It hurts when I’m touched.”
