She’d seen last week, during a mandatory visit outside, that the courtyard would be closed during the festival, and given that she couldn’t see anyone down below right now, she could only assume her path to freedom was clear.

The other harem women usually spent their time in the courtyard finding lovers to take back upstairs, but not Cordelia. She had spent her time there observing her surroundings, watching how visitors entered and exited the capitol building and when the guard posts changed.

Besides, the only alien she was even remotely attracted to hated her for attempting to ‘feed’ him to those spiders, believing she’d intentionally lured him to that cave. She hadn’t, but she wasn’t going to dissuade Ezul of that notion, specially now that she was leaving.

Cordelia scoffed, rolling her eyes.

Imagine the nerve of that alien, thinking she’d gone out of her way to try to get him killed! Granted, ithadworked in her favor. But she hadn’t planned anything; she’d just been aimlessly running for her life.

Not that it matters anyway!

Refusing to waste another second dwelling on Ezul, Cordelia grabbed one of the heavy sconces from the wall that she had spent hours painstakingly loosening while everyone else had been sleeping the night before. She chucked it right at the glass.

The window shattered beautifully in a cascade of glitter that rained down into the dark world below her, the resounding crash unclenching a tether that had been locked around her heart. She took off one of the silk slippers they’d given her, using the bottom to clear away any remaining glass from the sill.

She dared a glance outside into the night, her heart beating erratically in her chest. Sighing in relief when no one came rushing in, Cordelia grabbed hold of a few vines, testing their sturdiness before she crawled out of the window and onto the ledge, determination consuming her.

She was getting the hell out of here. Tonight. Where was she going to go? No idea. This was definitely a fool’s endeavor, but what was the alternative? Stay here until they decided her womb was up for grabs?

Ha!

Cordelia was anxious about falling as she planted her feet and hands firmly in the vines, beginning her descent. Her anxiety increased with every placement of her foot until the hairs on the back of her neck rose in alarm.

It felt as if she was being watched. Impossible. The courtyard was closed!

She nearly lost her footing, scrambling desperately when she felt something warm and solid cup her ass, holding her up.

Twisting around in panic, she glanced down to see… nothing? Cordelia didn’t know what she even expected; it was dark as hell outside and no one was on the vine with her. But she could feel something caressing her.Touchingher.

What the hell?

The pressure continued on her backside, groping her until she felt a stirring inside her womb, an odd arousal beginning to build the more she was fondled. Her dress shifted against her legs as a strong breeze struck her, and Cordelia sighed in equal parts exasperation and relief.

It was just the wind. Her gown must have caught on her legs, hugging her curves lightly as she moved.

God, she really must be missing sex if her dress felt like a lover’s caress.

Cordelia shivered as the gown continued to slide firmly along her ass while she descended from the vines, completely distracting her until she stepped onto the grass a few minutes later.

A breeze ruffled the silken material as she stepped onto the grass, and when her dress fell back into place, the heavy weight against her butt instantly disappeared.

See? Just the wind!

Still, Cordelia shivered, feeling unsettled.

She glanced around quickly, worried a guard she hadn’t anticipated would burst from the darkness and haul her back up to her room, but the courtyard remained quiet. She released a satisfied breath, finally feeling a bit of hope stir in the pit of her stomach as she glanced around for the exit.

The courtyard was surrounded by vine-covered walls. One like the wall she’d just scaled, and three others that led to freedom. They were fairly high with sharp, metal stakes sticking out from the top to prevent intrusion, otherwise Cordelia would have scaled those in order to escape into the night.

Instead, she planned on exiting through a side entrance within the main building. Cordelia made her way into the deserted section of the capitol building, heading for her destination.

With renewed confidence, she strode along the hall, reaching out and pressing her palm against the cool metal of the external door, fully expecting it to open.

She’d seen tons of people leave that way. Just a quick press of the palm, an invisible screen lit up, and then the door unlocked, sliding open.

A shrill beep came from the door instead and Cordelia jumped backwards as red symbols flashed on the screen.

“Unauthorized,” a robotic voice hissed from the door, making her jump again.
