Oncetheyweredressed,Cazar carried his mate toward camp, following the sounds of whispered voices ahead that he could easily recognize as his family.

Even still, Alex smacked her mate’s chest, scolding him as Cazar looked around their small base. Two metal pods for sleeping were already assembled, one set on either side of a campfire, which crackled into the night.
Evie looked around as Cazar set her onto her feet, both of them ignoring Kylok’s grumbling. “How did you guys manage to bring these all the way out here?” She stepped forward, knocking on the side of one metal pod. “This is so sturdy, and it’s the size of a car!”
“I sometimes forget our technology is vastly superior to Earth’s,” Cazar commented absentmindedly.
He snatched up a remote sitting on the floor next to their pod, pressing down on a small button. The pod began to collapse in on itself, a gentle whirring noise coming from within. It flattened until it was the size of a book on the ground at her feet.
Evie’s mouth popped open in surprise, and because Cazar enjoyed showing her new things, he pressed the button again, and they both watched as it reconstructed itself.
“That is amazing,” she breathed, her eyes wide with wonder. “But what happens if someone presses the button while you’re inside? Do you just get completely squished?”
Cazar snorted, shaking his head in mock admonishment as he reached for Evie. He pulled her into his arms, giving her a gentle kiss on the lips before he answered her questions.
“It senses life forms within, so it will not close if there are people inside. Even if it were to malfunction, there are security features set along the internal and external walls to prevent it from collapsing. It is safe.”
“Is it soundproof?” she murmured, waggling her eyebrows suggestively.
Cazar stilled and then, in one quick motion, he grabbed his mate’s legs, hoisting her over his shoulder like a knapsack as she squawked in surprise.
“Brother, Alex. We’ll see you in the morning.”
With that farewell, Cazar stepped into the pod, the door closing behind them.
