After giving the warrior a sedative, the parasite had also been rendered unconscious, allowing Cazar to detach it easily and take it to his lab for safekeeping. Sedated, he’d been hopeful to study the foreign parasite at his leisure.

Only, the parasite had woken up before Cazar could learn much about it. He’d been forced to confine it until he could figure out a way to safely examine it further. All he’d managed to learn in the weeks he’d had it in his possession was that it was volatile, escalating from docile to angry within a matter of moments, depending on who was in its presence.

And now it was one with Cazar, having lived with him for weeks. Physically attached to him, but in a much different way than it had been on the warrior. No, now it was etched onto Cazar’s back like a piece of artwork. There was no way to detach it from his person. No protrusion, no thick mass to inject with sedative so he could remove it; not unless he attempted to cut into his own flesh. Even then, Cazar doubted it would work as the parasite was constantly moving along his back, almost as if it were restless.

As the days passed, Cazar had assumed death would take him as it nearly had the warrior host before, but for some reason, he had not suffered any of the same side effects as the other male. There was no lethargy, no pain, no weakness.

Not only had he remained in good health after the parasite had fused itself to him, he’d grown physically stronger, his height increasing by several inches, his body altering into peak physical condition. But with these new additions to his physical form, Cazar had also discovered that he was quick to rage and anger, wary of anyone and everyone.

He’d also learned when he’d first been released from the hospital that during the attack on his lab, he’d shifted form. He’d become a grotesque monster with antlers and razor-sharp white teeth that he’d used to bite the heads off of his enemies. The parasite had taken him over, warped his body and mind and done whatever it had wanted.

It was sentient, and it was inside of him. Sometimes Cazar could even swear he heard it speaking to him. Like a ghost of a whisper he couldn’t quite ignore but didn’t fully understand. All he knew was that he was a freak,a monster, possessed by a creature that had altered his bodily autonomy and now shared his mind.

Where once Cazar knew order and control, now he was constantly filled with chaos and conflict. But most of all, his thoughts never strayed far from one curvy human that had caught his eye.

Evadora.

Evie.

He’d first met her on Aragnok, at a gathering where eligible males of his planet were selected by human women volunteers from Earth to court in the hopes of mating and producing offspring. The first moment Cazar had seen her, he’d been smitten instantly. Just one look and he’d been struck through the heart, forever changed. Upon their second meeting, he’d vowed to himself that he’d do anything to be worthy of her, to be granted the honor of waking each morning beside her. He’d never longed for anything in his life the way he did Evadora Chambers.

But that was weeks ago, before he’d becomethis. Now, she was the one person he could no longer have, yet the only one who he needed most. Just the thought of her pierced through the raging storm inside him, the parasite seemingly holding its breath whenever her image flashed into his mind, which was often.

Beautiful golden hair that flowed around her in loose ringlets. Smooth, creamy skin that Cazar knew was silky soft, even though he’d never truly touched her. Her eyes were the deepest blue, like he’d heard described of Earth’s oceans. And her body? Evie had curves that made his mouth water and his palms itch with the fierce need to run them all over her.

When Cazar had first met Evie, he couldn’t help but notice how much taller and wholly captivating she was than the other women. She’d also been more beautiful and far more enchanting. He was not familiar enough with the anatomy of human women, or women in general, but she was exactly how Cazar imagined a goddess would look like, with ample curves he’d wanted to explore every inch of.

His slacks tightened as his cock swelled in size, a dark need sweeping through him the more his thoughts lingered on the mate he’d all but cast aside. A guttural whisper began in his mind, and he squeezed his eyes shut, determined to block it out.

It was dangerous to think of her, especially as his own dark need morphed into something nefarious, growing hungrier, spurred on by the parasite that was now whispering insidiously in his mind. They were still difficult to decipher, but the images the parasite planted in his head of Evie were vivid enough to understand.

It wanted Cazar to find her, to take her. To worship her body and soul, and share her with it since it was unable to claim her on its own. It needed Cazar as a vessel, which was why he suspected he was stronger and healthier than its last host. It was using Cazar for its own purposes.

And it wanted Evie.

But Cazar wouldn’t give his mate to a monster, even if he longed to be with her, to complete their mating bond. He was afraid of what would happen to them both if he gave in and allowed the parasite what it so desperately craved. Whatheso deeply craved.

Her.

That was the reason he hadn’t seen Evie since that fateful day in his labs. He needed to keep her safe from this thing clawing inside of him, to keep her away from the monster so easily capable of killing. He was terrified that she would be its next victim once it was no longer enamored by her. But her very essence was branded into Cazar’s bones, beckoning him to her more strongly than even the parasite was capable of doing.

All he wanted was to go to her. But as the days ticked by, he found it difficult to differentiate between his own thoughts and the monster’s.

It was difficult enough to keep it from taking him over completely and seeking her out; it was so powerful compared to Cazar. Daily, he wrestled with his new, sinister emotions. Every waking moment felt like a torment as he battled against a nature that was not his own, but he’d do it for the remainder of his life if it meant she remained safe.

He’d give Evie the only protection he could afford, even if each passing moment without her was slowly killing a part of him.

“You seem to be struggling more today than yesterday,” his father, Jakkar, mused, breaking through Cazar’s thoughts.

Cazar stiffened in his seat, so lost in his muddled mind that he’d completely forgotten his father was with him. Not an uncommon occurrence lately. He was often consumed by the disturbing mix of his own inner turmoil, his raging lust, and the monster’s own indiscernible thoughts seeping into his consciousness.

“No more than usual,” Cazar responded, his voice devoid of any emotion.

Jakkar sighed. “I take it you do not wish to hear about the inevitable collapse of our alliance with the human race?”

No, he didn’t care to know. Not when he could barely focus.

“How soon do you think it will happen?” he asked instead, hoping that the sound of his father’s voice would soothe his tumultuous thoughts as it had in his youth.
