“As my mate, my blood will possess restorative properties for you.”

“So I’m fine? I feel fine,” she admitted in disbelief, looking at her forearm where a red line was slowly fading, likely from another cut.

Cazar’s gut clenched at the sight.

“You are well, Evie.”

She sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Look, I am furious with you right now. You shouldn’t have lied, not to either of us, and if you ever lie to me again, I will never forgive you.” Her eyes softened on his. “But I’m so thankful you’re here. We both missed you, Toroq. And I think I can speak for Cazar when I say that burrowing away again is unacceptable. Cazar has been moping since you disappeared, and I don’t like him being upset.”

Cazar felt it then; a distinct shift in Toroq’s presence, almost as if the parasite...meltedat her admission.

“I will confess that Toroq is not my name,” he said somewhat sheepishly. “So that we may wipe the slate clean of my lies.”

“What? What is your name then?”

Toroq shrugged. “Joe, if you wish. Otherwise, I have no name.”

Evie wrinkled her nose. “What does ‘toroq’ mean then?”

Toroq smiled. “Mate.”

Evie snorted. “So you really had been planning for us to mate even before the ceremony?”

Toroq nodded. “I have wanted to mate with you since the moment I first sensed you. Never has another being held such sway over me until you.” He sighed. “I suppose that Cazar has grown on me as well.”

Before she could ask another question, the building was breached by dozens of guards, Jakkar, Tristan, and Cazar’s brothers.

Epilogue

EviesawthemomentToroq took a step back in Cazar’s mind. His eyes returned to their normal shade, and he held her more desperately to him, if such a thing were possible.

Her head was reeling from everything, she was covered in blood, and she honestly just wanted to clean herself up and sleep for a week with Cazar in her arms.

Tristan’s voice carried through the throng of Aragnokans that had suddenly pushed into the lab, and it wasn’t long before her brother burst through the crowd, racing to her side. Jakkar was hot on his heels, as were Ezul and Kylok, but everything became a blur when Tristan pried her from Cazar, hugging her hard.

“There’s blood all over you,” he said shakily.

“I’m okay.” Tristan shook his head, clearly disbelieving her words. “Remember the Jekyll and Hyde situation?” He nodded. “I promise you, I’m fine.”

“Okay. Then can I ask why Cazar is covered in what I presume is silver blood?”

“He got stabbed a lot protecting me,” she offered quietly, hating that it was true.

Evie squeezed Tristan once and let go, more than ready to fall back into Cazar’s arms. The fact that she’d been right earlier made her sick to her stomach. He had been dead as she’d cried over him, begging for him to breathe.

Stephen had killed the man she loved.

She might not have ever seen her mate again if it wasn’t for Toroq. And now they were both here with her, alive.

Evie moved toward Cazar, practically falling back into his arms, holding him in a death grip. Guards raced past, heading to the body while Jakkar clutched Cazar’s forearm.

“What happened here?”

“A human followed Evie here from Earth. He came aboard one of our ships with stolen documents he procured from an Earth senator. He almost killed me and nearly killed her.”

“What?” Tristan exploded, face reddening with fury. “I’ll kill that son of a bitch.”

“I have already done so,” Cazar assured. “Though he terrorized us before I managed to rip his head off.”
