I found myself staring at the pregnancy test stick sitting on the sink. I checked the box again, confirming what I had suspected. I hadn't anticipated it happening this soon, and I couldn't help but wonder how Snare would react. Would he be upset? He had warned me that this was a possibility, but I didn't think things through. All I wanted was to feel him close to me.

As I contemplated my situation, doubts and fears crept in. What if I wasn't a good mom? What if I messed things up like my dad had? Suddenly, I was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Catalina? You alright in there, baby?" Snare's voice called out.

"Yeah, babe. I'll be right out," I replied, quickly sliding the test into my back pocket.

As I emerged from the bathroom, Snare gave me a once-over and frowned. "You look pale. Did you go to the doctor?"

I hesitated for a moment before giving a nervous laugh and avoiding his eyes. "Uhhhh, not yet."

Snare stared at me, his expression serious. "Uhhhh, why not?"

I tried to sidestep the question, but he wasn't having it. "No reason," I muttered.

"Oh, hell no. Come here," he said, pulling me into his chest and holding me close. Even though I still avoided his gaze, he gently tilted my chin up and asked, "What's going on, baby girl?"

I took a deep breath before admitting, "Well, ummm... that is probably, yeah."

“What?” His brow furrowed in confusion.

I pulled away from him and began to babble about parenting and how we were living in a creepy old apartment without even having a house yet.

“That’s only temporary,” he reassured me in a soft voice, but I kept rambling.

“You know, I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes my father did,” I continued, my voice shaking.

“I don’t want to repeat my father's mistakes either. But what does that have to do with our living situation?” He asked, puzzled.

He raised his hands in the air and walked towards me, trying to calm me down. "Stop. Stop,” he said, grabbing my shoulders and turning me to face him. “Tell me what’s going on.”

I looked into his kind blue eyes, reached into my back pocket, and handed him the stick. He took it from me and stared at it for a very long moment.

“That’s a plus sign.”

“That’s a plus sign.”

I nodded. “Mhm.”

“That means…”

“Yup,” I quickly nodded again.

He finally raised his eyes to mine. “Are we sure?”

“I took three tests. This was the last one. They all read the same.”

He started to nod, and then his brow furrowed as he came to the realization that we were going to be parents.

“Fuck,” he whispered.

“Yeah. Yeah, that’s a good word for it.”

I was nervous, thinking he would be so upset he’d leave me. But instead, he looked at me and smiled. And then his smile reached his eyes and he let out a huge belt of laughter before grabbing me and twirling me around the room.

“You’re pregnant!” He shouted.

I laughed along with him as relief poured through me. “You’re not mad?”
