Page 2 of Loving the Knot

Okay. So I have a… place to hang out today. I do my side work, text my roommate—not that she cares but we usually keep each other updated on that kind of thing—with details about when I’ll be home, and chat with the new guy on the register.

The last fifteen minutes of my shift melt away, and by some miracle, there isn’t a line of twenty the second the clock ticks to over to five p.m., meaning I can actually leave and not either be asked to stay a little late to help get through it or feel guilty for leaving the new guy on his own with a lineup.

As soon as I head around the counter, Steve pops up and heads for me. “Ready?”

“You’re eager.”

“I want to get back to my master,” he admits.

“Your master?” I know my left eyebrow has shot up. Maybe this isn’t for me after all.

“Yeah. He’s special. He’s turned my life around. You’re going to love it.”

“Yeah. I can’t promise I’ll stay. That’s not my scene.” I want some huge guy to ream my asshole; I don’t really want to have to lick his boots to get it, though.

“I hear you.” Steve shrugs. “I was super skeptical too, and I didn’t expect Kalos, not for a second. But I wouldn’t give him up for the world.”

“Well, it’s not like I can’t get an Uber if I need to leave, right?” I’m not loaded or anything, but it was payday yesterday and I can afford an unexpected ride if I need it.

“A hundred percent. No one’s going to make you stay if you don’t want to.” Steve looks at his phone. “Our Uber is two minutes away.” He leads the way out to the street.

“Cool. How did you meet your… guy?”

“One of my gym buddies suggested I go. I almost didn’t—I was feeling really low. I’d just gotten fired—again—for being too intimidating. I was a fucking bouncer, but my size was an issue.” Steve rolls his eyes. “But with Kalos, that’s not an issue at all. I’m small compared to him, and he made me feel special from the moment I met him. He made life worth living again. Screw anyone who thinks I’m intimidating—I’m a good guy, you know?”

“Of course you are. You’ve always been cool to me.” I never once thought Steve was going to be a problem customer, and it has nothing to do with either of us being large dudes.

“Thanks, I appreciate not being judged just ’cause I’m a big guy. Of course you’re even bigger than me, so…” Steve grins and nods as a car pulls up by the sidewalk. “This is us.”

“Okay.” My heart starts pounding, but I tell myself it’s just a new situation. A new chance to… get laid.

We cram into the back seat together. And yeah, we’re both pretty big guys a fact proven because there’s not a lot of room between us.

“You ready to be the small guy?” Steve asks like he was just thinking the same thing.

And I don’t even know how to answer that. I’m never the small guy. “Sure. Why not? Are you into basketball players or something?”

Steve just laughs. “Or something. You’ll see, man.”

Before I can ask more questions or decide it’s getting too weird, we pull up in front of a high-rise building. It looks pretty fucking normal and not at all like a place that boasts a sex club, or a club of any kind, really, except maybe some business association.

It’s a little comforting, though. This is a busy street. When I leave, I’ll be able to get a cab no problem.

We go in and Steve leads us straight to the elevator. He presses the button to the thirteenth floor.

“There’s a thirteenth floor? That’s progressive, isn’t it?” Most taller buildings still don’t have a thirteenth floor. Well, they have thirteenth floors; they just don’t call them that, like not saying it’s the thirteenth will magically make it not be the thirteenth.

Steve just grins at me. “That’s the kind of men they are.”

The elevator is quiet and quick, and it takes no time at all before it stops and the doors slide open silently.

I whistle. Fancy.

And I’m here in jeans and a brown T-shirt. “Dude… this is swank.” I really should have insisted on going home to shower and change. I won’t have to worry about wanting to leave—they’re not going to let me in the door.

“You’re good. Trust me.”

There’s a guy in front of a large desk next to a set of doors and he smiles when he sees Steve. “Back already?”
