Raider…
We got word last night that two of the head men in charge of the Brotherhood were taken out by the Rival Sons MC when they were close to Houston. Both David and Antonio are already gone and the last head that needs to roll is Phoenix. Antonio and Phoenix were cousins and each of their fathers were high up in the ranks of the Brotherhood. Down the road, that will be something to be cleaned up. Their deaths will not go unnoticed.
The first bombs have been detonated and the houses are gone along with at least twenty of the gang members. We have them on the run. The other half of my brothers are waiting at the quarry. We’re going to push them into the trap. I hear the shooting before I arrive with Buzz and Gator behind me. The prospects are at the clubhouse, and I haven’t gotten any word that we have been hit there yet.
I ride in fast behind the last car. I park and dismount my bike because the people in front of us have nowhere to go. This lead-in road has no access to the lower quarry where the action is happening right now. These dumbasses should have known that. Four men jump out of the car. Gator takes the first out. I slide behind a rock to see where a target is hidden. I get closer to the men by sliding up the rocks and watching for movement. I see the flashy jacket Phoenix is always wearing and I put him in my sights. I shoot. I have no time to think because someone takes a shot at me as Phoenix’s body falls. I hear another shot and the man is taken out by Buzz. Only one to go. The man had gotten in the rocks higher up like I did. He has a shiny gun, not black like ours. It will be his death. He shoots a few shots off and when he raises to do it again, I see the flash of his gun. I take my shot and the guy falls from the rock he was on. I don’t want to make stupid moves, so I go back down the way I came and meet back up with Buzz and Gator.
“That was four.” Buzz states the obvious.
“The shots further in the quarry have stopped and we need to make sure all these men are dead. One of them was Phoenix but at least two of them were older men. That means they’re either higher up in the hierarchy of the Brotherhood or they’re hired guns. Either way, it may not be good for us later.” I give my brothers my thoughts. This dreadful feeling is still in my gut. My phone vibrates in my pocket. I take it out and read the text from Billie. “Fuck!” I yell. Buzz and Gator both look at me.
“Everything is still good with the club. Billie just text me and she’s talking to some men from the Rival Sons MC. She says one of them upset Mom. The woman is out of my sight for a few days and she’s talking to members from another club. The club I was worried about the most. It’s the president and a nomad. She says there are four of the bikers at the hotel where the signing event is being held.” Buzz is shaking his head.
“I knew that woman was a magnate for trouble. What do you want to do, boss?” Gator is watching us closely. I have to protect the women in my life no matter how pissed I am. I think Gator would go if I didn’t. What the hell am I thinking, of course, I’m going?
“Let’s check the men out and grab Black Web. He needs to get on these men and find out who they are. I’ll ride out after that. My mom and Billie should be safe inside the signing event. They have security there.” I don’t know if I’m saying this for my brothers or for me.
“Your mom is all of ours. I’m going with you,” Buzz says, and I know there is no talking him out of it.
“Your woman is also my friend and I’m going too. I would bet all the brothers would go if you just gave them the chance,” Gator adds.
“No, it will be the three of us that goes. Lit and the rest of the brothers will have their hands full cleaning up our messes and protecting the family. Black Web needs to get us names on those older men. If we have more trouble coming, I want to meet it head-on, and the sooner the better,” I tell my brothers. “Let’s get it done. I wanted to be on the road as soon as I finished texting with Billie earlier. I can’t even text her back right now, I’m so angry.” We’re on the road to Billie within the hour.

Rager and I had a wonderful time walking around the event and talking before lunch. I genuinely like Rager. He’s a bit overly interested about Raider and his mom. I chalk it up to his curiosity but there is something else there. I’m also aware that Rager is pumping me for more information as the day wears on. I’m not sure what’s going on but there is definitely something. I feel it in my gut, as strong as the feeling that I know that Rager and Reaper would never hurt me. Raider was mad when I texted him and there is going to be hell to pay when he arrives. I know he’s on the way here.
I’m picking up the books I have preordered from each author. Rager is on his way back to me. “I’ve come to follow my tour guide around. Shall we?” See, Rager can be playful and downright charming. I head right toward Penny Anglene. We hear raised voices before we reach her and Rager goes stiff when he gets his first look at Penny. Yep, I knew something else was going on. We pick our speed up and that’s when I realize that Penny’s words are being thrown at Reaper.
“Watch out, motherfucker. The next whore is gonna bite your dick off while you get a blow job. I’m going to hire ‘Bobette’to bobette your dick right off. You’re going to walk away with a little snub of a dick. You got me, motherfucker?” Penny points her finger at Reaper.
“What the fuck do you want? Whatever it is, it’s twenty-five years too late. Get your pea-sized balls away from me. Tell me why you let him do that to me, knowing I would think it was you?” Penny is now snarling and pointing her finger at Rager.
“What the fuck is going on here? What the hell are you doing to my mom to get her so fucking mad?” Raider snarls out.
“Who the hell are you?” Rager asks Raider. Before Raider can speak, I cut him off.
“Rager, this is Raider, my boyfriend and Penny’s son. The two guys with him are Gator and Buzz.” I look at Rager. “Raider, this is Rager, and that is Reaper and Skeeter. I think everyone should lower their voices because people are starting to stare. Sapphire or security are going to come over here. Please, keep it down.” I try to calm the chaos that is going on.
“Who the hell are you, motherfucker?” Rager keeps his voice low but it still sounds menacing.
“Don’t talk to my son that way, Rager. If I get kicked out or never asked back, I will hunt all of you down. This is my job. I can’t believe you would do this,” Penny says, stomping her foot on the floor. I walk over and stand by Raider but he’s too mad to see me. Penny smiles though.
“Did you know that I came to the clubhouse?” Penny asks Rager.
“I know that you kicked rocks right after seeing Reaper get a blow job. You asked no questions or even gave me the benefit of being able to explain to you. I loved you. I changed for you. You didn’t care. You just left and never looked back. I never saw you come back to the clubhouse but if you did, I was a free man. You left me,” Rager says in an even lower voice but it is full of venom.
“I came to tell you that you were going to be a daddy. I was scared out of my mind. We had never talked about kids. I walked into the clubhouse to what I thought was you getting your cake. I didn’t know you had a twin. I never knew. That is on you. As for not coming back, I know that too. I needed you the most when our other son died. I was greeted at the door with your message. So, I do understand what you meant you were a free man. You never once checked up on me. Love and changed for me? Bullshit. You didn’t give me a thing other than my children who I grieved for and raised all on my own.” By now I have tears flowing down my face right along with Penny. Penny grabs her phone and heads toward the door.
I hear Hope telling them all to leave, to get out before everyone notices what’s happening. I would like to be anywhere but here right now. Raider is seething with anger with Buzz in not far behind him. Gator keeps giving me looks and I know he feels the same way I do. Raider grabs my hand and he’s not gentle about it. I follow him but I’m not happy right now. I just want to be here for Raider and his mom without all the drama. They don’t understand that three people have been affected today—Penny, Rager, and Raider. The parents aren’t seeing how this is making Raider act. They are only concerned for their own feelings and not about the innocent person here, their son. Don’t think I don’t feel for each of them, but Rager made choices for himself, and Penny made choices for herself. Raider had no choice in this at all. Raider and his mom struggled when Raider was growing up. Rager did whatever Rager does. Raider was the little boy left wanting a dad. That is the reason I’ll follow Raider today. He needs me to stand beside him. This is what happens when people avoid dealing with their feelings and issues as they come up. All three of them are still running.
