I have finished with club business. There has been no word or action from the Brotherhood so far, and I take that as a good sign. We have intel that there was a big bust in the hierarchy of the gang, but one day they will regroup.

I ride my bike into my mom’s drive and park it. At least Mom is here by herself. I’ve told myself that I will remain calm today and try that compromise thing.

“Hey, Mom. You have a good trip home?” I ask her.

“Yes, quiet, and soothing. I had a lot to think about,” Mom tells me.

“Hey, you’re going to be a grandma.” I just spit it out.

“Really? Congratulations to the both of you,” I say. “Where is Billie?” she asks.

“With her mom. I proposed to her while she was lying on the exam table. I’ve had her ring for a long time,” I tell her. So far, this conversation has gone better than I expected.

“What did she say?” Mom asks.

“Well, she said yes, but with stipulations. She’s carrying my baby, so it won’t matter. She’s going to whether she likes it or not,” I tell Mom. I know Billie and I will get married, and soon.

“You know that if she has stipulations, you may not like them,” Mom says without even looking at me. She’s biding her time before she dives into our situation.

“I know what they are and we are working on them, but that’s between us. But that’s my baby in her belly and she’s mine,” I tell her. I am so in love with both Billie and my child.

“Okay, if that’s what you think.” Mom is staring me down now.

“That’s what I know.” I won’t accept less.

“Look. You will not speak to me the way you did yesterday on the phone. I won’t put up with it. You understand me.” Mom is in her stubborn stage. That, I can deal with.

“Look, Mom, I don’t want anything to do with Rager. He walked away from us. You don’t need or want him in your life. Look what he allowed to happen before. Also, why didn’t you ever tell me about my twin?” I ask her.

“Watch the tone, right now,” Mom reprimands me.

I glare at her. I want to say something but I hold my tongue.

“Spit it out,” she tells me.

“I don’t like you having anything to do with him. You need to remember that I’m a man now and not some child you can boss around.” I try to watch my words. I don’t want to hurt my mom.

“You don’t get a say in that,” she tells me.

“After what he did? I may not have anything to say about what you do, but I do have a say in what I do and what my family does,” I say exasperated.

“That wasn’t him. A lot went on that I knew nothing of. That’s between him and me. When I deem that it’s your business, I’ll tell you. You need to understand a couple of things. One, I have always loved your dad. Always. Two, had I known what went on, we would still be together. You need to step back and let us figure out if that’s what we want now,” she tells matter-of-factly.

“Well, I don’t fucking like it. He’s nothing but an asshole and someone who runs a one-percenter club. Illegal shit, Mom. You don’t know the type of man he is. You’re also forgetting that I was impacted by what he did as well,” I snarl. They forget that their decisions impacted me too.

Just about that time, I hear the back door slam open. Rager comes in, and before I can react, the old man has punched me in the mouth. This is not fucking happening.

“I told you not to speak to your mother that way.” Rager is furious. Guess what, so am I.

I stand up straight and stagger a little. “You motherfucker. After the way you treated her, you dare to tell me how to speak to my mother.” I swing and we match punch for punch. There is no stopping either of us. We both need this. Then we both stop and look at each other. Mom is gone from the room. She left us to fight among ourselves. I’m done. I won’t put myself through this anymore. I’ll just stay away from them both. They can have each other. I have my own family to think of. I storm out of the house without another word and slam the door on the way out.

Billie…

I sit here and wait for Rager and Reaper to show up. I know what I’m doing may backfire on me, but it’s necessary to take risks sometimes for the outcome to be what you want. I know I have Mom right outside if I need backup with these two men.

My mom worked two doubles this week, and she just got off a graveyard shift at the hospital. I told her I didn’t need her here. I’m a grown woman and I can hold my own, dealing with two men. Raider had the same argument with me, but I won that one. Mom doesn’t take no for an answer. Even if I am nineteen years old, she’s still a mama bear for all her children. She thought I might at least need moral support today. I don’t understand her position, but she’s here anyway. Her being asleep means she trusts me but still wants to be close. I can work with that. My morning sickness wasn’t there this morning and I feel a better. My mom has been there every step of the way when it comes to Raider and this baby.
