“Just a friendly warning, Shadow.”

“Why the fuckis there a rumor that you’ve been gloating about you and Sam at the party?” Brantley demands as I open the door. “You really think this is going to help you?”

“I haven’t said shit,” I snap. “Sam was telling Lux about it in their Lit class.”

“You seriously believe that?” he chuckles, pushing past me and heading toward the kitchen. I close the door and follow him. “She doesn’t talk about anything in her personal life at school. Let me guess, Warrick was the one that told you?”

I sit on my seat at the island, closing the file I had open. “Yeah, he was,” I admit with a growl. “Do I believe him? Ha, nope not a chance.”

“What the fuck happened outside the gym?” he asks, dropping down into the seat across from me. I burst out laughing as an image of Warrick flashes through my mind.

“She put hair removal cream in my shower gel,” I say with a chuckle, I laugh harder when his brows shoot up. “But I wasn’t the one that used it.”

“Who did? Fucking hell, you got to give her kudos for that,” he says with a laugh.

“Warrick,” I say laughing. “It took his hair and brows off.”

“No fucking way,” he laughs, tears stream down his face. “How the fuck did that happen?”

“He was giving me shit, then snatched it off the side, I know she meant it for me, but she seemed just as happy when he came out like that.”

We become silent as we both chuckle about the situation. When she asked him to tell her her fortune I nearly lost my shit. The sun hit his head and it glowed like a crystal ball, it was the funniest thing I’ve seen.

“What’s this?” he asks, pushing the file closer to me.

“You know when I told you my brother and Bo found out some shit,” I say, my tone harsh at the anger I’m feeling after I read what is happening. “That’s it. Read it, but, Brantley, it has to stay between us.”

He nods, pulling the file to him. I watch as he opens it and his eyes scan the pages. The more he reads, the paler he becomes as his eyes flick up to me every now and then in disbelief.

“Kylo, is this…?” he asks, his brows scrunched together.

“Yeah, it is,” I admit, the tension in my shoulders becoming painful. “I’ve read it every day, trying to understand how anyone could do something like this.”

“Something like this,” he roars. “Her own fucking father is selling her to Bowers’ family!”

“I know,” I bellow, jumping to my feet. “Don’t you think I know how fucked up all this is.”

“You can’t let this happen,” he demands. “Kylo, you can’t, you don’t get it.”

“What?” My mind races as he tugs at his hair, his eyes wide in fear. “Brantley, what do you know?”

“He can’t get his hands on her, nobody realizes I see more than they think I do,” he mumbles, ringing his hands together. “He’s the one doing it.”

“Who, Warrick?” I snarl, my voices screaming in my head. They’re paying for blood, and they won’t be satisfied until they get it.

“He has something to do with it, but I think it’s her dad,” he rumbles, and my voices scream louder as memories from when we were kids flash through my mind. Brantley hiding in the derelict building because his dad had come home drunk again. I grab my phone, firing off a text to my brother. His reply is instant, telling me he’s on his way to a meeting, but he will be in touch as soon as he can. I roar, throwing my phone against the wall, watching it smash to pieces.

“Dude, what the fuck?” Brantley shouts.

“He’s going to a business meeting,” I growl, grabbing the file and tossing it across the room. “Then he’ll get back to me, so yeah, I’m on my brother’s waiting list.”

“Kylo, we need to tell her,” he says, panic on his face. “We can’t keep this from her.”

“We have to,” I say with a harsh tone. “It’s for her own good, but I promise this, he won’t get his hands on her.”
