“Yeah, man,” I say with a huge grin. “We need to figure out what we’re doing for the next few parties.”

I open the door, and he heads out. I breathe a sigh of relief as I watch him climb into his battered Jeep and take off down the driveway. His taillights disappear into the darkness, the cold night causing my breath to mist, and I lean against the door frame, because depending on who’s driving, they will be here soon.

The rumble of an engine fills the air, and I smirk as I hear the gravel kicking up behind the car. I head into the house, leaving the door open as I make my way to the liquor cabinet, pulling out enough glasses for all of us. This feels like one of the times that you can only get through with alcohol. I’m pouring the first drink when I hear loads of shouting and Frost bellowing Bo’s name. I rush out into the hall, and everyone is standing with their backs to me. There’s a screech as something slides across the floor.

“I know we’re family, but you don’t pay me to babysit, and it’s got a malfunction, so good luck with it,” Bo snaps as a lump stops in the middle of the room.

“What the fuck?!” I yell as I watch her stride out of the front door, not bothering to look back, Knox and Deacon following her laughing. The lump on the floor violently shudders, and my brows scrunch up in a frown. I walk over, pulling the hoodie off the top of it, and my mouth hits the floor.

“What did you do?” I snarl, charging up to my brother and getting in his face. “Did you kidnap her?”

“You fucker!” My head whips around to find Shadow sitting on the chair properly now. Her hands and legs are immobile as they’re attached to it. Axel stands with a huge grin on his face as Rafe stands behind her with his arms folded against his chest. “He fucking bought me.”

My head whips around to my twin, his eyes shining with laughter. “Early Christmas present,” he chuckles as she starts screaming behind me. The other two laugh like this is a normal thing to happen.

“I’ll kill the lot of you,” Shadows screams. “Let me go!”

Frost roars and pushes past me. I step in front of her, blocking him off, as he growls at me and I snarl back.

“Hundred on Kylo,” Rafe laughs.

“Deal,” Axel chuckles.

“Not the fucking time, boys,” my brother booms. “Your present needs an attitude adjustment.”

“You won’t touch her,” I snap, glaring daggers at my brother. Oh’s fill the room from the two cackling shitheads behind me.

“She’s already pissed Bo off, you need to make her understand that this is the only way,” he says, his shoulders relaxing. I don’t, there’s one thing I learned. Never, and I mean never, feel comfortable around my brother. He’s like a snake who seems to like your company, but then will strike.

“What’re you going on about?” I ask, confused. I look over my shoulder, eyes connecting with Shadow’s, and my anger starts to boil as I see grazes on her cheek and shoulders through the ripped material of her dress.

“Sam, I know you don’t believe us, but one more threat to Bo and she will take it literally. And trust me, you don’t want to get on the bad side of her,” he says to the girl who’s glaring daggers at him, like she could kill him where he stands.

“Do I look like I give a flying fuck if your ninja thinks she’s a badass?!”

I smirk at the hostility in her voice, even the guys’ eyes widen.

“You bought me!”

“What?” I look around the room, and the boys all look to one another.

“Get it through your head, you stupid bitch,” Rafe seethes, I’ve never heard him sound so angry. I step forward and Frost halts me. I snarl at him in warning. “Frost and Bo paid a lot of money for you, to keep your dumb ass safe!”

“You’re lying!”

“We’re not, the original deal was Bowers was buying you for a trophy wife for Warrick. But then we found out he didn’t plan on that, he was going to sell you to traffickers for ransom.” Frost’s voice is softer than I would have thought possible, and I’m locked in place as his words sink in. “You’re here, you’re free. You get away from your dad who beats the shit out of you and you’re away from those fuckers. So see it as Kylo is the lesser of two evils.”

“I’m not staying here with him,” she says nastily, trying to break the tape on her arms. She tugs with so much force the chair starts to fall backwards. I step forward, but Rafe stops me with a shit eating grin on his face.

“You don’t have a choice in the matter, Kylo is the best person to keep you safe,” he says with a hint of pride. “Anyone who tries to touch you will get hurt. Haven’t you learnt this already?”

“Oh yeah, like he tied my ass to a fucking flagpole in my underwear!” All eyes turn to me.

“You didn’t?” he asks with a smirk.

“You were pissing me off and you needed to learn I’m nothing like the people you’re used to dealing with,” I say with shrug, the thought of having her in the house has my skin buzzing. I managed to keep my face stoic like it’s not affecting me, but I think Frost knows how much I want this.

“You’ve got the break to get accustomed to this and we’ll make sure all your stuff is delivered,” he says, turning on his heel, the other two following closely behind him. “Oh, be careful, brother, she’s a runner.”
