“You may think he’s finished with me after you signed the contract,” I say, my tone is eerie, and a coldness sweeps over me, my body becoming numb as I resign myself to everything going on. “It’s only a matter of time before he changes his mind.”

“That’s not going to happen,” she seethes.

“He won’t get anywhere fucking near you.” I whip around at the rumble, surprised to see Kylo leaning against the wall. He managed to stay silent so neither of us heard him.

“You don’t know him like I do.” My voice is hollow as I stare at my hands. “If he wants me back, he will find a way.”

“You’re part of our family now, Sam, and I know how to deal with people like your father,” Bo growls, climbing to her feet. I watch her as she steps forward and pulls me into a hug. “Plus, there’s more of us than there are of him.” She says with a laugh. “But I don’t think anyone will get near you with him around.”

We both burst out laughing as Kylo’s face drops into a scowl and he glares at her. I see now how much of a family they truly are. I know I feel safer with him than I have in a long time, and I don’t want to give up on that. Am I in love with him? I don’t know. Do I think I could be? Yeah, maybe.

“Thank you for the talk,” I say to her as I get up and head toward the stairs. I stop at his side, my eyes on his face. He doesn’t look at me, but I can see the tension lining his eyes. “Thank you for the date, I had fun. I’m going to see if I can get some sleep,” I say as I look over my shoulder and give her a smile. My eyes land on his and I smile.

I take the stairs two at a time, and I get to the door as I hear hushed voices. I know she’s probably speaking to him about our conversation, but honestly, I don’t mind because I have no idea how I’d explain my feelings to him. I close the door softly, locking it so he can’t sneak in. I just need some time on my own, and I feel exhausted for the first time in too long. Hopefully I can have a nightmare-free night. I climb into bed, wiggling my way down until I’m comfy. My eyes start to close, and I give in.

“Areyou sure you want to do this?” he asks.

I glare at the people who have the balls to gape at us through the window; I’m sitting in the front of Kylo’s car and that drew a lot of attention as we pulled up. I can hear the whispers already and we’re not even out of the car yet. Although, I can’t really blame them because there is no way Warrick hasn’t been running his mouth about the whole situation.

“We knew this was going to cause a stir with the gossip mill,” I say with a shrug, “We know the score, let them come up with their own ideas. I really don’t give a shit.”

“You’ve got my number, I’m not in any of the same classes today,” he says. “If you need me, call.”

I climb out of the car, and I hear his car door close a second after. He makes his way around to me, his eyes dark as he steps up to me. I lift my head to look at him, and his eyes are sparkling with determination and annoyance. I can feel it rolling off him in waves as he grips the back of my neck, pulling me closer, and the noise all around us stops, the whole area silent. He leans close, our noses almost touching, and the edge of his mouth tips up in a smirk.

“If you do this there’s no going back,” I say, my tone hushed like we’re sharing a secret. I expect him to pull back but he doesn’t. His lips connect with mine and it’s like a shot of electricity goes through my lips into my chest.

He pulls me closer, deepening the kiss, and all I can do is move my lips against his as he holds me captive. Everything tunes into him, like we’re both on the same radio frequency and nothing else matters. I get lost in the sensation, then he pulls back, and I grumble my annoyance. My eyes flicker open and he’s staring at me, eyes dancing with mischief.

“Have a good day, Shadow,” he purrs, and with a wink he spins on his heel and takes off into school. I watch him go, seeing Brantley running up to him, shock clear on his face from where I’m standing. I chuckle as they both disappear out of sight.

“Fucking slut,” someone says as I head to my first lesson.

I grip the strap of my bag harder the further I get into campus, the insults that have been slung my way have me nearly breaking teeth I’m clenching them that hard. I gnash my teeth at a couple of the girls in warning as they try to block my way, my classroom is at the end of the corridor, but it’s unusually full for this time of day.

“Oh look, here’s the whore,” a voice snarls in front of me. I grip the strap tighter, my hand shaking with anger as the fucker steps into view. “Hasn’t he got bored of that disease riddled pussy yet?”

The students part like the red sea, and Warrick walks between them. His eyes are dark as he glares at me, and I spot his two friends behind him, both looking at me in disgust.

“Fuck off, Warrick,” I snarl, pushing past him. I don’t get far before I’m spun around, his grip on my arms painful, and I glare up at him as his boys press closer. “Get the fuck off me now!” I demand, and the fucker smirks.

“Oh no, princess, your daddy screwed me,” he says through his teeth, his grip getting tighter. “But don’t worry, baby, he won’t be keeping you for long.”

“What part of, I don’t want you, are you finding so hard to understand?” I snap. My knee comes up and I smirk as he drops his hold to grab his junk. I watch with a savage grin as his face becomes beet red, the whine that escapes his lips has a bark of laughter coming out.

“Warrick!” a shrill voice snaps. “Get your ass up, you’re embarrassing me.”

I glare as a girl walks through the crowd, throwing daggers at the fuckwit that’s still rolling around on the floor. Her eyes look me up and down, her upper lip curling up in a snarl. I square my shoulders and lift my chin, looking at her the same way she is me.

“Is this her?” she asks, turning her attention to the idiot. He climbs to his feet, hands still cupping his junk, and nods his head as he stands up straight, eyes narrowing on me. “Oh well, one Princess is about to fall and then the Queen goes next,” she says with a nasty grin.

“You threatening me?” I snarl, stepping closer. She steps up to me, Warrick and the guys at her back. She pushes me back a step, the move catching me by surprise as I stumble into a student behind me. Pain radiates through my cheek, and I snarl as I see her pull her hand back and smile at me in triumph.

I lash out with my fist connecting with her cheek, and she falls screaming like a banshee. I step over her as she lays on the floor, tears in her eyes, pulling my fist back to hit her again, when I spot something.

“Miss. Whitlock, go to the Principal office now!”
