I squeal with excitement, not able to help myself. Kevin chuffs a laugh, shaking his head at me as I jump up and down on the spot. I rush across the street and a horn blares at me, making me stop to find a man behind the wheel of a car glaring at me.

“Get out of the road, you idiot,” he shouts out of the window, waving his fist.

Another horn blares, making me jump at the sound of it. It’s enough to get my feet moving, and I hop onto the path. My heart beats frantically in my chest while Kevin looks down at me, smirking.

“When you want to explore, it’s not a good idea to get yourself flattened.”

“Ha Ha, dick face,” I throw back. “Do you forget that not many supernatural have cars since they can poof themselves anywhere they want to go?”

“No, but c’mon, Pop, what fun are we going to have if you become a permanent part of the road?” he laughs as I glare at him. I’m beginning to second guess if bringing him with me was a good idea.

“Screw you,” I gripe.

I don’t bother waiting for his quick-wit reply that I know is rolling around in his head, instead I take off towards the building. I watch as some people go through double doors, but the amount of people using them has formed a massive queue. Some people in the line are complaining on how long they’ve been waiting to go in, while others just look plain bored.

Other people are going inside through a weird looking thing that looks like a big clear tube with a fan type thing going around in a slow circle. I watch as one person steps into an empty space as another steps out at the other side, but someone has to push it to get it to work.

I cock my head, trying to work out what the hell the need for something so weird is, but the people using it seem to be moving quicker than the people in the queues, which is even more curious.

“You look confused, doll face,” a gravelly voice says from my right. I turn ever so slightly and spot a gorgeous guy standing there smiling at me.

“You could say that,” I respond with a smirk. “Why is everyone else waiting when this thing’s moving so much quicker?”

“Most people are claustrophobic and they won’t go into that thing for fear of what will happen to them,” he says, his head moving side to side as he looks between the queues either side of us. “Plus, I think some famous person is here or something and they have to queue.”

“Oh.”

“Who’s the douche?”Kevin’s snide remarks comes into my head, and I look his way, trying to make it inconspicuous that there’s something there. The guy looks the way I’m looking and I hold my breath, not from fear of what he will see but from the look on Kevin’s face; he’s got the urge to do something.

“Be nice,”I plead in my head.“He was explaining to me why there are massive queues going in, that’s all.”

“I don’t like it, P,”he growls back, and my eyes widen as I see the glow of his magic start to show through his scales on his body.

“You promised!”I chastise him, glaring at him before looking back at the shopping centre. I know he can feel my moods so I try to make how annoyed I am known. Hopefully he’s paying attention and it’s enough to stop him from doing something stupid.

“Fine, but lose him,”he grinds out. “I get a creepy vibe from him.”

I look at the guy, trying to read anything malicious from him. But there’s nothing, he’s all friendly smiles as he takes in the area. No, Kevin’s wrong. This guy isn’t a bad person. Yeah, he spoke to me, but it doesn’t mean anything bad. Maybe he just wanted to talk?

“Well, have fun shopping,” he says. His smile is wide and friendly as he walks towards the tube thing, I follow behind him at a slower pace. It looks like this is the best way to get into the shopping centre, the guy looks over his shoulder. His eyes sparkling with happiness and something else. “See you around, Poison.”

“What?” I gasp as Kevin growls at my side, and I push my way through the tube thing.

The need to demand answers off the guy is the only reason why I made it through the tube as quickly as I did. I step out of the other side, my head whipping left and right as I try to find him within the crowd. Nothing! He’s gone.

“I told you I got a creepy vibe off him,” Kevin hisses. “Did you tell him your real name?”

“No,” I fire back, anger at the accusing tone he’s using with me. “Why would I tell a random person my name when I’m meant to be Poppy?”

“You need to be careful, P, it means there are more players on the board and I don’t like it,” he says with a dark look in his eyes.

His words confuse me, what does he mean? Is he hiding something from me? My mouth opens and closes as I try to get one of the questions to come alive on my tongue, but it’s like all moisture in my voice is gone.

“Shop, have fun, and keep your wits about you,” Kevin says. “I need to find out some stuff, be back soon.”

He evaporates out of view. What the actual fuck? The lying little toerag, he’s definitely hiding something from me. He’s never disappeared on me like that. I know he can choose who he wants to show himself to, but he’s never hidden himself from me. I try to call his name in my mind through the link but I’m met with a mental block, no connection, no feeling of him. Nothing.

My mind’s at war between self-preservation and defiance. One part of me is telling me to abandon this shopping trip and go back to the flat, but then the other part is screaming at me to do what I want to for once and screw everybody else.
