I’m talking out of my ass and she knows it.

Sarah crosses her arms around her chest, looking the part of the prissy princess, as usual. “And when were you going totellme?”

“When the occasion arose. I left the day-to-day management of the place to Gordon so there was no point in letting you know until now.”

She huffs in frustration or derision. “You still shouldn’t have done that with a bunch of customers around!”

I roll my eyes, and decide not to tell her I had the store closed the moment I walked in, guessing where our interaction was likely to lead. The only people allowed to remain were Heritage folk, and the store’s employees. But I prefer her believing I’m willing to fuck her anywhere, in front of anyone. She’ll think twice before provoking me next time. And that’s what she was doing. Pure provocation.

“We could have gotten arrested.”

“We didn’t,” I quip.

Her eyebrows knit as we drive past the intersection I should have taken on the right to go back to campus. “You missed the turn.”

I snort, and keep driving.

After this long, she should know I don’tmissthings.

“Marius, where are you taking me?” She’s trying for severe, demanding, but she sounds a little too concerned to achieve that.

“I’m taking your advice. Consider yourself kidnapped.”

Her eyes widen. “What the hell. Be reasonable, dammit.”

“I’ve been reasonable for four whole weeks,” I remind her. “I’m over it.”

My beingreasonablegot her fucked by Rhys while I was beating my cock twenty-four seven to combat blue balls. Been there, done that, sang about it, got the T-shirt. Zero stars. Moving on.

She sighs. “What are the chances of you letting me go?”

“None.”

She rolls her eyes and settles back in the comfortable seat. “You’d better feed me. I haven’t eaten since lunch.”

“Oh, I’ll feed you,” I promise, my cock twitching at the thought of doing that in many ways that don’t involve any food.

I grin as I make a mental note: orgasms do work in making her more pliant. I’m pretty certain she would be yapping about having to go home if she hadn’t been thoroughly satisfied.

I thought I should wait. Try to make her admit to herself that she wants me just as much as I want her. I don’t know, maybe take her on a fucking date or something, like normal people. It was against my nature and inclination, but I was as patient as I could be, and it sent her into fucking Rhys’s arms.

Sarah and I don’t do normal. We both enjoy a fight. I should have just taken what I wanted. It’s the only way to satisfy someone like her.

Prey.

“You’re getting rational,” I note.

“Whatever.” She shrugs. “I’ve been on my feet all afternoon. I’m tired and hungry.”

In truth, I’m glad to see she’s teachable after all.

Certainly, Sarah likes to protest—she obviously thrives on the conflict—but she is capable of picking her battles. Good to know.

Ten minutes later, I slow to a stop in front of a stately building in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but fields, forests, the lake, and the hills of Thorns Falls in the distance.

I open Sarah’s door as she unbuckles her seatbelt, before tossing my keys to the valet service guy on duty.

Sarah’s eyes widen as she takes in the imposing four-floor mansion in all its splendor.
