We wereon the move again. Apparently, the text message was a warning that said we were in grave danger, that the men hunting my kidnapper were close to finding us.

It was late night, and dark as shit out, but Silas took twists and turns like we were on a raceway, doing so while talking on his cellphone. He was speaking in Italian, but with the speed and dialect he used, I could only catch simple phrases. I understood words like, “she needs identification” and “we will be at the airport soon” and “when we arrive in Italy”.

By the time he hung up, we were turning into the regional airport.

“Silas, I don’t want to go to Italy,” I said.

“Yes, you do.”

I rolled my eyes. “I mean I don’t want to go now. I just want to go back to my apartment and attend school. Though you refuse to say why, I get that these men are after you. However, they wantyou, not me. So why are you dragging me into this?”

“It’s not safe to leave you here.”

“Um, wouldn’t it be safer if I werenowherenear you when they finally catch up to your ass?”

“They won’t catch up to us until I’m ready for them.”

That made no fucking sense. “Tell me what you did?” I demanded. “Did you steal from the mafia or something? –Look, I don’t even care anymore. Just take me home.”

“This is not up for debate, Eden. You are not leaving my side. You areneverleaving my side. Got that? You are mine.”

I narrowed my gaze. “I belong to no one. I am my own person.”

“You are your own person. But you are alsomine.Mine to love, mine to cherish, and mine to protect.”

He raced through the airport roadways until he reached a hanger. After squealing to a stop beside a small jet, he jumped out to meet with the waiting pilot, copilot, and an airport employee. He handed over his car keys to the employee while going over paperwork with the pilots.

As they discussed whatever, I slipped out the passenger door and began quickly walking away. I was sure I could find a ride once I reached the road. Maybe even call an Uber.

I heard Silas yell my name, even over the whirl of the aircraft warming up.

I ignored him.

We had become so intimately connected that I didn’t even need to look over my shoulder to sense him stalking me. I could feel his dominant energy as it came closer, pulsing through my body as he drew nearer and nearer.

Adrenaline poured into my blood, demanding I flee from the danger.

It is why I ran away.

I couldn’t help myself.

Instinct demanded it.

Like the wind, I was breezing across the runway. Yet I could still feel the predator pursuing me catching up. I knew he would not be deterred from the hunt. I didn’t think it would matter how far I ran. I realized the grim truth of his words. He’d declared I would never leave his side—never be free of him. He owned me.Mine,he’d said.

His rage was nearly tangible as he breathed hot down my neck and enveloped me in his masculine scent. He captured me by my hair, jerked me back to him, then wrapped his free arm around my torso as he worked to subdue me. He spoke in my ear, like the gnashing of teeth, as he snarled his displeasure.

Screaming bloody murder and sobbing uncontrollably, I flailed my arms and kicked my legs. Instinct was a powerful thing. Since my flight had failed, my fight had kicked in.

I only wished to be free.

And this motherfucker stabbed me in the neck.

That pinch and his heavy panting was the last thing I felt as I sank into warm oblivion.

???

I awoke to a pounding skull and vibrating ass. I thought at first my phone was in bed with me. I was notorious for scrolling on the internet late at night until I fell asleep with my phone on my face.
