I awoke with a start—and a throbbing headache.

Once the world stopped spinning, I sat up slowly in the large bed, holding my breath as the nausea started to wane. My head throbbed and I saw a glass of water on the nightstand. I picked it up and took a sip.

“You’re awake.” Silas came into the room with a beaming smile. “You slept the day away.”

I hurt—God, I hurt everywhere. “Did you drug me again?”

“I’m about to start dinner. Why don’t you come sit in the living room?”

I was too weak to get up. And my legs ached, and my ass and pussy throbbed. Did we have sex again?

As if sensing my discomfort, Silas tsk’d and took the glass from my hand. I cried out when he lifted me from the bed. “Fuck,” I ground out. I realized I was naked again. I could see marks on my skin.

“Did you rape me while I was sleeping?” I accused.

He shrugged. “Would you believe me if I told you that you begged me for it?”

“No.”

“You should.” On the pronouncement, he placed me on the couch, then covered me with a blanket. He returned to the kitchen. “I have no reason to lie. You are mine, regardless.”

I narrowed my gaze as he resumed cooking. It was like we were playing a game of cat and mouse. He was the cat, and I was the mouse. Wherever I moved, he was always trailing after, not letting me get too far away.

“What is this place?”

“My cottage.”

“Are we going to return to school anytime soon?”

“When it’s safe to do so.”

“Are you going to keep me hostage?”

He plated my food. “I rather you be a guest. But I’m not going to let you put yourself in danger, so if that means keeping you here against your will, so be it.”

“But my grades—”

“Are not as important as your life.”

I couldn’t help the tears. “So that’s it? The life I built for myself is over?”

He came over, put the food on the coffee table, then sat next to me on the couch. He hugged me, and I bawled like a baby while he made shushing sounds.

“Eden, why can’t we build a life together? Why does it have to be all or nothing?”

“Because I have plans. But what about my dad’s legacy?”

“Plans are allowed to change, andyouare your father’s legacy, not a school.”

I didn’t want to leave Hampton University, but between my family and Silas, maybe I shouldn’t stay either. They were making it impossible for me to realize my dream.

I didn’t know what to do.

Suddenly, there was a ping on Silas’ phone. I could tell by the way he stiffened that it wasn’t a sound he wanted to hear.
