I chose to go to my brother’s first. Sebastian ran one of the largest vineyards in Italy. We washed some of our money through their doors. It also had many places to hide a body, and since Sebastian’s specialty was torture and punishment, this was incredibly helpful.

I loved him to death, but my brother was a little–insane.

I walked right into the building and bypassed his receptionist who looked at me with wide eyes and her jaw on the floor. It had been a long time since I’d been in the country, and any who had worked with the family knew the conditions of my banishment. As far as they were concerned, I was a now a dead man walking.

I marched straight into my brother’s office without knocking. He hated surprises…

Which is why I was greeted with a gun.

“Fratello!”I opened my arms as I walked in with a huge smile on my face.

I went around the desk, bent down, and wrapped my arms around him as he sat flabbergasted. There was nothing funny about this situation. Other than the fact that Sebastian hated being touched.

My brother loved dishing out pain but hated receiving it. And knew that as soon as I had touched him, burning tingles licked like flames down his body. Ever since a house fire irreparably damaged his skin, it had been like this.

“What are you doing here?” he choked out. “Are you trying to get killed?”

I changed the subject. “Catch me up with what’s happening.”

“Papa` wants me to get married within the year. Apparently, I need to produce heirs to ensure the line.”

I pictured Eden walking toward me in a white dress, her curly hair styled in an updo, a bright white smile on her face. Fuck. I wanted that.

“I am trying now.”

My brother seemed surprised. “Really?” He pulled out his cellphone. I could see he was texting our mother. “Who is she.”

“She used to be a student.”

Sabastion rolled his eyes.

Is that why you dragged her to Italy with you? Does Father know that you have come home with your tail tucked between your legs?

“Watch it,” I growled. “I’ve killed men for less.”

“Yes,” he drawled, unconcerned, “but you won’t kill me.”

“I did no such thing,” I assured. “If it were just me, I would have stayed in the US. But I love Eden, and I know they will target her because of that. I fear I won’t be able to protect her.”

My brother nodded. “So you wanted the family safety net.”

“I need my men.”

“My men, you mean.”

“Debatable,” I offered.

He closed out his computer, adjusted his files into a neat pile, then stood. “You’re my brother. I will always have your back.”

“Even with father?” I tested.

He ignored my question. “Mother wants us to have lunch with her. She doesn’t want to wait until dinner to see you.”

“Right. Time to face the music.”

“You know you’re not supposed to be here.”

“But I am.”
