“This calls for a celebration! We need champagne.” Abel claps his hands, and a waiter comes in with a bottle and glasses.

I am in no mood for him or any of this bullshit. I look at Genny, and she nods, understanding me perfectly.

“Nope, can’t leave yet. We still have to give Genevieve her surprise.” Abel pops the bottle open and starts pouring while he talks.

“Now that Miya is in charge of the business, any and all previous arrangements with one Anton Blair are void. If she so wishes. No more cargo transports. In addition, any help you may want to give to local, state, and federal agencies to prove his involvement in illegal activities are now yours to give without the fear of repercussions from your father’s friends in Japan.” He hands us flutes of champagne and then clicks them before sipping on the bubble alcohol.

“We can dismantle his whole empire.” Genevieve sips as well.

“You. Not we. At his campaign announcement ball in three days.” I choke on the sip I just took.

“With his mother at your side,” Josephine adds from the corner of the room she’s been standing in.

“Why would you do that?” I can’t help the suspicious tone of my voice.

“I have sat for years and watched as my son became a monster. He has destroyed so many lives and taken more than I wish to count. Over the years, I have tried to lessen the effects by helping Mr. Brooks hide women and children the Dahlia Initiative has rescued. It’s not nearly enough. If seeing me throws him and gives you a chance of bringing him down, how could I not help?” Her voice is full of pleading.

“And the benefit of Genevieve delivering the blow?” Her brother is a fucking psycho.

“How else do you bring down a Presidential candidate than a public execution after he attempts to kill his baby sister on live TV. What court of law would ever question that?” Abel drains his flute and places it on the coffee table, sitting in the seat Josie left empty.

“Queen takes King. Check and mate.” He says to the room.

“Sir, you may want to turn on CNN.” My staff knows not to trouble me with useless information, so my house manager’s suggestion has me intrigued.

“Thank you, Samuel.” He places a tray with my morning coffee and newspaper on my desk.

“TV on.” I leave CNN running since it gives me all the world information I need in one spot.

I unfold my newspaper and start to drink my coffee when the broadcasters start talking. They skim over politics which makes me smirk, some sports, and world events, and then get to the stock market.

IN BREAKING NEWS, FUKUMA ENTERPRISES STOCK SORE OVERNIGHT WITH THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FOUNDER AND CEO AKIHIRO FUKUMA’S RETIREMENT. THE COMPANY IS NOW BEING RUN BY HIS DAUGHTER MIYA FUKUMA. SOURCES TELL US THE COMPANY WILL BE OVERHAULING ITS ENTIRE STRUCTURE AND FOCUSING MORE ON TECHNOLOGY MAKING ITS FUTURE VERY BRIGHT.

I slam my coffee cup down, spilling it all over myself and my desk. It burns me, but I don’t give a shit. I grab my phone and call my campaign manager and right-hand man.

“Derek, have you seen this shit?” I growl into my phone.

“I was just going to call you. I’m outside. See you in a minute.” I hang up and go to change into clean clothes.

I jump in the shower to wash off the coffee. When I come back out into my study, I find Derek on the phone. His face is ghost white. Nothing shakes this man. It’s the reason I’ve kept him around so long and trust him with many of my secrets. I could slit a man’s throat while he sits next to me, running my empire on his cellphone. Neither of us loses sleep over what we do, so his face right now is very worrisome.

“What?!” I hiss, and he drops his arm away from his ear.

“Our cargo arrangements have been revoked. Any shipments currently in transit have been recalled. Our access to the ships and docks was revoked. Coast guard inspections are resuming as we speak.” I nod, gritting my teeth.

“Get Goto-gumi on the phone.” He raises his hand again and offers me the phone.

Does he already have the head of the Yakuza on the line? Is that why his face is so pale? I snatch it from him and place it to my ear.

“Goto-gumi…” I’m cut off before formally greeting him.

“Mr. Blair, it is very late here, so I will make this quick. Fukuma enterprise is no longer under my domain. I will not be interfering on your behalf. As I told your associate moments ago. Our relationship ends here. We do not deal in women and children. It would be best if you do not force my hand on this matter. Sayonara.” The line goes dead.

Derek’s face is now beet red. His anger is showing through the shock now.
