“A college nearby is having an end-of-the-year fraternity event, and our frat was invited.”

“Nice. Well, I’ll be seeing you around.” I go to step around him, but he grabs my arm.

“Len, wait. Meet me outside. I wanna talk to you real quick.”

“That’s alright. I gotta get back. I’ll see you on campus.”

“Len. Seriously. Everyone is worried about you. Please wait for me outside.”

I give him an odd look but sigh and nod. “Fine.” I finish my shopping and check out. After loading my bags into my car, I lean against the hood with my arms folded and wait.

Landon walks out a couple of minutes later and nods his head in the direction of his car. “Let’s go for a ride.”

“I thought you had somewhere to be.”

“I do. But there’s a beautiful spot to look at the ocean right down the street. I wanna show you it.”

“I’m good, Landon. The last thing I want is to hook up right now. I got—”

“Just get in my damn car. I’ll bring you right back here. I promise.”

“I swear to God if you try any funny business,” I say as I wag my finger at him and walk over to his truck.

He doesn’t hold the door open for me like Holden would, but is that a surprise? It’s Landon, for God's sake.

“So what the fuck are you doing all the way up here? Needed to find some fresh meat?” He smirks, and I roll my eyes and put my hand on the door handle.

“Alright, well it was nice talking to you…” I say as I start to open my door, and he laughs and nudges me in the side.

“I’m kidding, relax.” He starts the engine and pulls out of the lot.

We’re both quiet on the ride over, and it feels unnatural, considering Landon always has something to say.

He pulls into a busy lot but manages to score a spot in the front row facing the beach. It is a gorgeous view with a lighthouse just off in the distance.

“You know everyone has been looking for you, right?”

I shake my head and stare out the window.

“Yeah, they even called campus police.”

“Oh well. I told Everleigh and Holden I wanted to be alone, and neither listened.”

After he parks the truck and kills the engine, he gets out and comes around to my side. He opens the door and waves me out.

I follow him to the front of his truck and lean against the hood next to him, facing the beach. “Listen, Len. I’m sorry for always being such a dick to you. It’s all jokes, but I know I go too far. So I’m sorry for that.”

I don’t know what to say. He’s the last person I ever expected an apology from.

“Is this really Landon I’m with right now?”

He chuckles, but his expression turns serious quickly. He lets out a large breath and then blurts, “I heard about Aaron.”

I gasp, the sound loud between us.

“Everleigh told Holden and me. But don’t be mad at her. She came to us out of concern because she’s worried. I don’t know any details. All I know is you were raped by him.”

I don’t know why, but the story tumbles out of me. At this moment, it feels okay to tell him, to confess what happened.
