Page 86 of Reckless Bonds

My pleading eyes find his expression unreadable.

“Please,” I whisper.

His voice is strained. “I’m sorry…I need a few minutes…”

I moan and groan into a guttural howl, trying to rub myself. Desperate for friction. But the sensation isn’t enough. Slowly, the urge fades, leaving me both completely satisfied yet yearning for more. My thoughts straighten out as I emerge from the strange sex fog.

I shake my head, trying to clear it further. Sunder lies next to me with a mixture of concern and bliss on his face. A peculiar smile on his face, almost dazed.

“What happened? I… I felt so… I don’t know. What just happened?”

Turning that wicked smile to me, “I think you went into Frenzy. It can happen sometimes in bonded mates, or so I’ve heard.”

I look suddenly into his eyes and see the truth. Feel it. It’s coursing through me. The mate bond. A light golden aura surrounds us, fading slowly, as I examine the new awareness blossoming inside me.

I can feel him in my mind. He’s hard yet so fragile, like a glass vase teetering too close to the edge of a table. Satisfaction beams down the bond. And something else far more surprising: Love. For me.

Excitedly, I jump across the room, ready to test my power. A warm glow washes through me. A wind from nowhere picks up and swirls around me, lighting the room, as I channel for the first time by myself.

Sunder laughs as I create an intricate red flower in front of me and crawl it across the room to him. He summons his own flower, sending a bouquet wrapped around mine back to me.

Through the bond, I can feel that his joy is enough to lift the world. It fills my chest with warmth as we amplify each other’s emotions. Even when I close my eyes, I sense where he is. It’s like I have an internal compass and he’s my true north.

I look at him. “Sunder. We did it.”

His smile is brighter than summer sunshine. “We bonded.”

“How? Why now?”

He shakes his head. “I’m not certain. Perhaps it was the magi’s intervention?”

My face falls. “Ew. You don’t think the wizard like..watched? Right?”

Sunder’s laugh booms, and he bounds forward. He grabs me and kisses my cheek, burying his nose into my hair. “No,” he says, muffled by my neck. “I don’t think he watched, and for the last time he is not a wizard.”

He pulls back, and his face is serious now. “Mira. I think that the bond… it has to do with my heart. And yours. We cannot be bonded if we did not care for each other. If I did not care for you as I should,” he adds with a serious tone.

I gulp. “And now you do?”

“Now,” he shifts, coming around to the front of me so we can look into each other’s eyes. “Now, I know that I have not been enough for you. That I took our status as fated mates for granted. You are an incredible woman, Mira. I committed to being better for you, to being the person who would be worthy of such a woman. It appears that love, not our status as mates, is what makes the bond real. I love you,” he whispers.

I almost say it back. “Sunder…”

He shakes his head. “If you are not ready, that is okay. But know that I do love you, Mira my most wonderful mate. I love you dearly.”

I know through the bond that it’s true.

I lean into him, putting my lips on Sunder’s. Kissing him with all my heart. I load the things I can’t say yet into this one kiss.

I love you too.

I will always love you.

I forgive you, even if you were a bag of dicks to me.

I need you.

I love you.
