Page 88 of Reckless Bonds

Ah, Earl Grey.

I add a dash of cream and sugar to the cup and sip again.

Perfect.

I realize that Bobble never responded to my call. So, I try again. “Bobble?”

He must have gone with Sunder to the library. I shrug to myself, letting the silence soak into my soul, calming the intrusive thoughts trying to break in. I prod the bond, sensing the vague impression of Sunder.

He’s below me on the ground floor, I think. Eager to test my theory, I race downstairs after I finish my breakfast and dress.

Finding Sunder in the cave-like library isn’t difficult. His black hair hangs loose over his shoulders, contrasting nicely with his fresh beige tunic. A brown leather belt around his waist holds his twin daggers on each hip. I smile to myself, satisfied that my guess was mostly correct.

When he looks up from the book he’s holding, his eyes nearly jump out of his head. I feel the shock and lust through the bond as he eyes up my sexy dress. I grin in delight, letting my hips sway with some slight exaggeration.

Bobble Cat chirps from somewhere down a long pathway to my right. My heart unclenches a little, the tiny anxiety of knowing where he is.

He’s stuck as a cat. But, I know that as a man, he’s also an important part of what we’ve got going on. We need to figure out a way to get him into his human form. Then, we can bond him too.

I really, reallyneed to get him out of his cat form. It makes me cringe when I sexualize my cat.

But, my mind drifts to Bobble Man’s body. Those shoulders. His kind eyes.

Those hands…

“And who are you thinking about?” Sunder grumbles as I step close to him.

Shit. I forgot he can sense my emotions through the bond. “Nothing. No one,” I stutter.

Sunder laughs. “Is it me, or the rat?”

I give him my best wearisome look before I sigh. “Would it be weird if I said both?”

“No. We are somehow one and the same. Even if we are different, we are one,” he says slowly. His eyes turn to me, and there’s a wicked gleam in them that makes my core heat.

“Besides,” he says, bringing his lips close enough to my ear so that only I can hear. “Last night my mate was frantic for more, and I found myself unable to perform. I should like to watch as she is serviced, so that she can get what she needs.”

I blink.

I’ve had a lot of wild fantasies in life. I can’t help it; I’ve been around for a while and I have unlimited access to the internet, which provides no end to its menu of earthly delights.

The thought of having Sunder watch while Bobble Man and I…

Damn.

My cheeks flush at Sunder’s knowing glance. I clear my throat, looking around the room.

“Find anything interesting?” I ask as Sunder lifts his gaze to meet mine.

Before he can answer, a heavy wooden door swings shut, announcing Yurghen’s arrival. The elderly wizard’s long white hair streams behind him as though he’s walking into a fan.

“Good morning, good morning. So, are you ready to accept my help?”

Bobble trots out from behind a stack of books arranged haphazardly on the floor. I don’t miss the way Sunder steps in front of me, as if he’s protecting me as we face Yurghen together. His arm brushes against mine, a puff of Chroma swelling inside me.

I consider another attempt to cast luck on us, despite our agreement to keep the bond secret, but it’s not worth the risk.

We still don’t know if Yurghen knows about our bond, or what he would do with that information if he did. It’s too dangerous to tell him. Better to keep any upper hand we might have.
