My gaze hardened. “I know exactly what I’ve done. I’ve bought you more time than you can fathom to earn your place in this world.”
Some of her anger dissipated. “I don’t even know what I want to do.”
I motioned toward the dolls. “You like skating.”
She stiffened briefly. “I mean, yeah. Sure. I love ice skating.”
“Do that.”
“Butwhatspecifically? I can’t compete in the Olympics. I can’t even compete locally because I’m not that skilled.”
I shrugged. “Make it a class. Make it an artful performance. Offer it to low-income shifter woman at a sliding scale, or for free. The possibilities are endless with me at your back.”

A bashful chuckle escaped her, and then she approached me hesitantly, running her fingers through her creamy blonde hair. Though she hadn’t turned on a light, I could plainly see the allure in her expression. She was definitely listening now.
