“Are you sure, man? Not that you get a say, but are you okay with all this? You mean the world to me, and I don’t want to lose that.”

“No one is losing anything. I’ll be gaining a brother-in-law, well, providing you get this weird-ass arrangement you have going on sorted out, and assuming I’m not being presumptuous about a marriage.”

“It’ll happen. No second-guessing. As soon as possible, I’ll be putting a ring on it, hundred percent.”

“Right, then I only have one more thing to say. You ever hurt her, I will kill you! And that’s not a joke this time. It will pain me greatly, but I will do it.”

“Then you won’t have to worry, will you, because we have hurt each other enough. That stops today, and I will treasure her for the rest of my life.”

“Now that’s settled, why the fuck didn’t you two get together earlier? Would have saved a lot of these hassles.”

“Tell me about it!”

“Now, on to the important things. That pass last week, holy shit, buddy. How did you pull that off and not pop your shoulder? You’re a freak!”

We continue on in our normal fashion, full of our own expertise and sarcastic banter which is just what I needed.

I feel like I’ve already lived a dozen days today. So many times, I’ve ridden this elevator knowing I’m going to be walking into an empty apartment. I didn’t realize until just now what the enjoyment of coming home to that special person is like. Suddenly the lonely times are a memory I hope I never have to go through again.

The doors open and the smell of food and the sound of music greet my senses.

Yes, this is what I’ve longed for.

Nat has her back to me, hair pulled up on the top of her head showing off her sensual neck, swaying to the beat and draining some pasta. I could get used to this.

“I’ve died and gone to heaven,” I say, coming up behind her. I kiss the back of her neck and wrap my arms around her waist.

“You could end up in heaven, if you make me drop this.” Seeing everything set out on the counter, I know she’s been preparing and waiting for me.

“But lunch looks so tasty.” I growl, nibbling on her neck again.

“I’m not lunch.”

“Why not? You were breakfast, and I’m pretty sure I’d be happy to keep the menu the same for dinner too.”

“And so it begins, never a serious moment between us.” She pours the pasta onto the plates and then the tomato sauce that looks sensational.

Lunch is over and done with, and my stomach is full. The simple act of having a meal with Nat, with no tension and being able to touch her whenever I want to, is such a change. Not sure either of us are used to it yet, but I know it won’t take long for it to become second nature.

“Do you think Xavier will ever let me live it down, his funny not-so-funny phone call?” I ask Nat as we clear the table.

“Not a chance. You know you have so much ammunition on him from when we were younger, so he is going to use it at every opportunity.”

“I think you could be right there.” And if I’m honest, I’m more than happy for that to be the case, rather than the opposite reaction which could’ve easily made our lives together a misery.

Taking Nat’s hand, I lead her to the couch. It’s time.

“I want to start at the beginning, so you know it all. Ask any questions so that by the time we get to the end of this, you know every thought and motivation for how we got here. And then it’s my turn to ask some questions. You don’t get off easy either.”

I pull her down into my lap, and she wriggles and gets herself settled. “Perfect fit.”

“Right answer.” She giggles as I try to stop my dick from responding to her ass moving backward and forward.

Her brown eyes, looking at me with all the care in the world, let me know this is a safe space, and no matter what, we will be okay.
