I drag my leg in and slam the door hard enough the glass is rattling inside the door frame.

Squeezing my eyes shut, I block out the world for a moment. I bang my hand on the steering wheel so hard it jars up my arm, and I feel the fear that immediately comes at the stupidity of possibly injuring my hand as I’m screaming out my frustration.

“Fuck!”

The word rebounds in the cab and still doesn’t solve my problem.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

Nope, three more times and I’m still as pissed off with myself as I’ve been all night.

My head slowly falls back against the head rest.

You need to breathe. You don’t get this worked up on field when you’re under pressure, yet she has you spinning in circles.

What do I do in the middle of an intense moment in a game? Well, I know one thing I wouldn’t do and that is fold under the pressure, which is exactly what I’ve done.

Instead, I would take a deep breath, focus, and stick to the game plan.

If only I knew what that game plan for Nat should be!

My heart is beating hard and my fists are opening and closing.

Come on, think, you idiot.

Storming off to your truck and leaving a party is not something a twenty-year-old guy should be doing. Especially when Xavier and Nat came here to spend time with me. The real me, not this dickhead who is acting like an idiot.

It’s Natalie, she makes me crazy to the point I’m not thinking clearly. Actually, it’s debatable if I’ve been thinking at all since she showed up.

Pull your shit together, time to man up and stop acting like a boy.

Thank goodness the blondes got the message and disappeared quickly while I had my mini meltdown out of sight from everyone else.

Stalking quickly back across the lawn and through the side gate, I try to remain calm but keep my purpose in the front of my mind.

Until I see Lonigan holding up Nat who looks a little light on her feet. Snuggled into his side as they talk to Xavier.

The pep talk I was giving myself has just gone straight out the window.

The simmer that was under the surface is now water bubbling and boiling over the side of the pan as I hear the words come out of Lonigan’s mouth.

“Yeah, don’t worry about it. Trust me, I’ll get Nat tucked up in bed in the dorm before you can even blink.”

How does the saying go?Houston, we have lift off!

The words are now exploding out of me, and he’s lucky that my fists aren’t following.

“Like fuck you will, Lonigan. The only person taking her home and tucking her into bed tonight is me. Get your fucking hands off her!”

Not even giving him time to say a word, I pull on the back of his shirt, making him let go of her as he’s stumbling backward.

Nat is falling a little, losing her balance too. I let him go, not caring that he’s falling beside me, and she is now in my arms.

Where she belongs!

Her shoulder lands in the center of my chest with a thud.

“Ugh, Jordan.” Her voice isn’t sounding as confident as when I left her.
