Carter jumps back away from the window, ruining any shot Nico could have of him as he hides behind the sofa.

"Ah, shot is gone now," Nico chuckles from the fallen phone.

"Knox! I don't want to have anything to do with this man, but I'd rather not see his brains on the floor." I beg him to stop Nico. I couldn't live if Nico bore the guilt for my dad's death. I couldn't forgive either of them.

"Nico, do nothing. Do you hear me?" Knox yells at the phone.

"I hear you. No is shouting. We is on speaker now."

"Good," Knox sighs.

"What it take for you both leave?" Nico reveals his goal; he's trying to help us leave before Annie is found.

"Carter wants Annie, but no one knows where she is." I still feel the need to shout, simply because the phone is so far away.

"The fanny girl you no let us play with?"

"Yes," Knox answers for me.

"So I find her, and we all go home?"

"Nico, phone my dad and ask him to search for her please."

"Not needed, I lo-"

Carter hangs up the phone before Nico finishes his sentence.

"Is he retarded?" my father huffs. As his men close the shutters on the windows, he finally finds the guts to stand.

"No," I defend, angrily turning to Knox with clenched fists. "Why did you bring him?"

"I-" Knox looks desperately at me, like a gaze might convince me to let him off. "I left him in the car. He wouldn't disobey me."

"He has my son's phone," Carter huffs. "Adrian, go up and check Gregory's room."

The amount of concern Carter shows his wanted son angers me.

"He could have been bluffing about the shot, so check Greg's gun."

"He wasn't bluffing," Knox states proudly. "He knew the minute you were gone from view."

"And he knows the colour of your sicky sand suit," I snap.

"Beige," Carter huffs.

"Have you ever been to Bulgaria?" I demand. My sister had some reason to involve Nico in all of this. She is too clever for this to be a coincidence. There would be far easier ways to tell Knox who our dad is, if her goal was for him to hate me because of it.

Could she have been telling me that Nico is Carter's bastard son?

"No, never. Why?"

"It's Romania, but the question still stands," Knox corrects me.

"I am a well-travelled man." Carter replies. "Bulgaria, no. Romania, yes, but a long time ago."

"Well travelled and well fucked," I snap. "Tell me you felt nothing for my mum?"

"I had feelings for your mum. I resisted for months before bedding her. But I love my wife more."
