Sage’s cheeks flushed bright red and the sparkle in her eye was back. Her fire wasn’t gone, just dimmed a bit.

“Well, no one’s keeping you here. Don’t let the horses kick you on the way out.”

Dante pushed forward on his crutches and when he was stable enough, reached out to take Sage’s arms.

“Baby, I know what’s happened is devastating. And I know that you’re dealing with a shitload of pain. I’ve been there. But don’t shut me out. Please. Talk to me.”

Sage’s eyes welled up and she blinked away her tears.

But she didn’t turn away. She stepped closer to him, and he groaned, loudly, when their bodies finally came into contact. It felt like they’d been apart for three months, not three days.

Never again.

“Talk to me. Come on. Let me in,” Dante whispered again, this time leaning down to take her lips.

The kiss was long and languid and better than any drug at healing the pain that lived on inside them. It didn’t matter that he was injured, she was too. They were two broken pieces that somehow made a whole.

Sage eased back and cupped his face, her fingers cool against his scruff.

“I’m sorry I yelled at you. And that I didn’t reply. I just… I can’t even say his name. My own brother. What he did haunts me. And then I think, am I any better?”

“’Course you are.”

“But what happened at the bunker—”

“Stays at the bunker. It’s like Vegas.”

Sage shook her head. “Don’t try to make me laugh right now.”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t want you beating yourself up over this. Padraig and Raven, they knew what was coming. That’s the MC life. Every biker has their day. And Blane, well, if you turn on your family, there’s no hope for you. You get what you deserve.”

“But I also turned onhim,” Sage whispered.

“No, you didn’t. You gave Rosemary the justice she never would have found in court. And look at this way, if Blane killed his own sister, he’d probably kill others. Maybe he did? Who knows what happened while he was involved with Midnight Carnage?”

“You could be right. Xander’s going through Blane’s phone. God knows what else he was up to. I don’t think I want to know what he finds,” Sage responded. “And Cameron and Naria?”

Dante shrugged. “You play with dangerous people, you have to be willing to pay the price.”

Sage stared up at him and nodded. “I said something like that to myself at the start of all this. I knew that if I wanted to catch Padraig, I’d have to stoop to his level.”

“No way. You’re so far above his level, baby. An avenging angel, that’s what you are.”

Sage leaned up and kissed him again. He never wanted her to stop.

“And who are you? My trusty sidekick?”

“Yeah. Your sidekick, your partner in crime, your boyfriend.”

Dante couldn’t believe the words pouring from his mouth but there they were. He watched the expressions that flitted over Sage’s beautiful face. Her smile returned and Dante got lightheaded at the sight of it.

Fuck, he was gone for this woman. He was euphoric, excited, and scared as fuck.

And Sonny wasn’t joking.

Suddenly, Dante had a bad need for a cigarette…

“Boyfriend sounds nice.” Sage reached up and kissed him again, teasing him with playful strokes of her tongue.
