Sage spotted several bikes parked near the rusty gate. Then her headlights caught on Gage Hellion’s imposing figure as he leaned against his motorcycle, talking to Sonny, the ‘enforcer’ as she understood it. She’d done her research on that. A chill coursed through Sage’s body, but she forced herself to ignore her discomfort.

Parking the SUV, she slipped out and walked over to the fence.

“Gage.” She nodded as she greeted him.

Three figures stepped out of the shadows, and she startled. It was Dante, Xander and Vanier, one of the crew’s youngest members.

“Pat her down,” Gage ordered and held out his hand. “And give me your phone.”

Sage placed her phone in Gage’s palm.

Then she stretched her arms out to the side while Dante patted her down. He took his time, and his touch was far too slow, tracing every inch of her body. Catching his eyes, she noticed the look of amusement there, and the cocky grin on his face.

Dante was enjoying this. Rat bastard.

Sage bit back a sharp comment and waited for him to finish.

He ran his hands under her leather jacket, over her stomach and finally up her chest, cupping her breasts. Her face heated and her nipples hardened. What the fuck? She should be pissed, not turned on. Dante’s deep chuckle told her he knew exactly how her body had reacted and why.

“She’s clean,” Dante declared.

He stepped back with an even bigger smirk on his face. Sage rolled her eyes.

“And no one followed her either.”

That voice belonged to the Hellraiser she knew the least about – Xander. The man was like a ghost. She’d searched online but came up empty when it came to him. The only information she gleaned was from town gossip. Xander was openly bisexual and had plenty of satisfied partners. And he was a computer whiz, or so she was told.

Gage passed her phone to Xander, who opened it up and inspected it, then he inserted a coin-sized disk.

“Dante tells me that you have information about the Midnight Carnage crew,” Gage stated.

Sage shook her head. “I’m not sharing any of my research until I’m guaranteed provisions.”

Gage cocked his head. “Such as?”

“I’m willing to put myself in the direct path of Padraig Flynn but I want to do it with Hellraiser protection.”

“Explain yourself,” Gage demanded.

Sage took a deep breath. “I want to infiltrate the Midnight Carnage compound. I believe – no, I know - he killed my sister Rosemary. I’ve done my due diligence when it comes to investigating her death and what I’ve uncovered indicates that he’s the person responsible. Or someone in his crew. But I need proof and so far, all I have is circumstantial evidence.”

“You should leave that kind of shit to the pigs,” Sonny grumbled, shaking his head.

“The cops have done nothing and I’m not waiting any longer. I don’t trust them at all.”

Dante stepped forward again and into Sage’s personal space. A strange lump formed in her throat as she stared into his midnight eyes.

“This is a dangerous idea.” Dante pointed out. “Padraig likely knows all about you.”

Sage scoffed. “Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, I’m willing to risk it. Besides, Rosemary always called me by my nickname, Frankie. My middle name is Francis. She never called me Sage. And my last name is different from hers, not to mention I look nothing like her. Give me back my phone and I’ll show you.”

Gage passed it back, and she tapped on her phone and pulled up a picture of Rosemary, then handed her phone over to Gage.

“Why’s your name different?” Dante asked.

“I was married at twenty-one to a man named Steven Lowry and divorced a year later. I kept the name since I was already working by then and that’s how people knew me. Benson is my maiden name and the one Rosemary used.”

Gage glanced at the phone again. “I still think it’s a bad idea. You know nothin’ about crew life. And you ain’t prepared to deal with that reality or take on someone like Padraig.”
