“I’m going to do whatever I have to make sure he gets what’s coming to him. And I’ve had a lot of time to prepare so I might just surprise you.”

“Really?” Gage replied.

“Really. You want to find out if I can handle working with you? Give me a role to play.”

She stared at Gage, then Dante, her pulse beating fast and strong. She was close, so fucking close.

“Okay. You’re gonna be Dante’s ol’ lady.”

“What?” Dante and Sage yelled at the same time.

“You heard me,” Gage bellowed. “You want to step into the ring, let’s go. You’re Dante’s piece of ass. But you’ll be unhappy real quick and be looking for another biker to fuck. A member of Midnight Carnage. We’ll tell you where to go, what to say, and who to talk to.”

“And track my phone.”

“Of course. I don’t know you. And I don’t trust no one but my crew. And if you fuck up, if you betray us, you better hope Padraig gets to you first.”

Sage’s heart just about stopped at Gage’s threatening tone, but she refused to waver eye contact.

“I’m in. And in turn, I’ll hand over every single piece of my research. There’s information in there you probably aren’t aware of and can use to your advantage.”

“Like what?”

“Like the name of the government official here in Alberta who’s been taking bribes from Padraig’s crew for the past year.”

Judging by the shocked looked on the biker’s faces, Sage knew she’d hit her mark.

DANTE

Gage stared at Sage and shook his head. “I don’t believe you.”

Dante had doubts himself, but Sage looked confident. Did she really have that kind of information or was she bluffing?

His curiosity about this bold woman kept growing.

“I’m happy to hand over what I have. You can review it and make your decision as to whether or not you want to work with me.”

“Deal,” Gage nodded. “Send the info to Xander in a secure file. If it pans out, we’ll go from there. But we’re gonna watch every fucking move you make from here on out.”

“I’ve added my number and email as well as Dante’s to your cell,” Xander interjected as he handed back her phone.

Sage nodded and took a step back.

“I’ll look forward to hearing from you.”

“We’ll be in touch, neighbor,” Gage replied and turned, straddling his bike.

He gunned the engine and took off down the road. Sonny, Xander, and the recruit, Vanier, followed.

Then it was just Sage and Dante standing face to face, alone in the darkness.

“There’s still time to back out,” Dante offered, walking closer.

“No, there isn’t,” Sage countered as she backed up. “My mind was made up months ago. And I’m not one to back down. Ever.”

“Then I guess we’ll be seeing much more of each other.”
