She tapped her earring twice. “Testing.”

The tiny implant in her ear crackled.

“Loud and clear,” a raspy voice echoed.

“Thanks, Xander.”

Funny how she hadn’t known these bikers for long but already she could tell who was who.

She threw on her helmet and slid behind Dante, pushing against him nice and tight.

When she slid her arms around his waist, she felt his body jolt. Good. She didn’t want to be the only one feeling out of sorts.

And then they took off down the driveway, out of the compound.

There was something about riding a bike that was unlike anything else she’d experienced. It required concentration, even for a passenger, and you could feel the power from the wind around them and the engine below. You lived completely in the moment, aware of every movement of your body, especially in the turns. Worries were put on hold, at least for a short while.

Sage began to imagine herself in her role. As the girlfriend of an outlaw biker.

The only rule was respecting the bike and the man you were riding with.

And then she remembered Rosemary. Her zest for life, at least the life she had before depression and addiction had set in. Rosemary was the wild one, embracing new adventure, being spontaneous, laughing loudly.

Sage channeled all those thoughts and got into the right headspace.

Dante drove fast but steady, and a short while later they pulled in to the packed parking lot of the Flamingo.

This wasn’t the type of place that Sage had ever frequented. More like avoided.

The bar was an old farmhouse that looked like it hadn’t been painted in twenty years, with cracked windows and grey wood siding that was buckled and worn.

There were a shitload of bikers standing outside the place, smoking, and drinking. Sage was greeted by loud rock music and the smell of pot.

Instead of getting off the bike, she waited until Dante slid off and then she followed. For once, she was going to push aside her pride and let a man lead.

Dante got off the bike and turned to her.

“I need a beer and a shot of whiskey,” he demanded.

Then he swatted her ass. Hard.

Instead of spitting at him, she choked down her irritation and gave him a seductive grin, then slipped past a group of bikers lining the entryway. Whistles, and jeers surrounded her as the men sized her up.

She felt Dante at her back, and her panic settled.

“There’s only one dick this bitch wants, and I got it right here. Now fuck off,” Dante growled.

His statement was so convincing, even Sage believed him.

She turned to find Dante grabbing his crotch and the surrounding bikers giving him the middle finger, then going back to their booze and conversations.

She opened the door and stopped short. This wasn’t just a place for crews to drink and shoot pool.

People were also having sex on every available surface.

There must have been close to two hundred bikers in the bar. And women. Most of whom were naked.

Between the blare of the music, the loud moans, the haze of smoke, and the low lighting, Sage felt like she’d stepped into another dimension. Dante grabbed her arm and guided her to the bar at the back of the room.
