Shit Adam! I should have called you!

It’s Green. Nash had an accident last night.

Adam’s heart skipped a beat. What? What happened? Is he okay?

Yes?

Why is there a question mark!Adam demanded. He wouldn’t be able to stand it if something happened to Nash.

He’s okay. He’ll be okay.

Adam wasn’t convinced.Where is he?

There was a long pause.

A few customers came in, but Adam ignored them. There was nothing as important as finding out what happened to Nash.Green?

Nash is yelling at me! Or he’s trying to but he’s not making much sense. Pain meds man!

Adam was going to lose his shit. He glanced at Mickey taking care of the customers. He couldn’t leave Mickey on his own!

Mickey finished taking care of the two middle-aged women before glancing over at him. “What’s wrong? You look like you saw a ghost!”

Adam shook his phone. “Nash!”

“Is he okay?”

“No…I don’t know!” Adam didn’t know Green well. Had only met the detective a couple of times but he seemed friendly enough. However, he was never to be in charge of giving Adam info on Nash again.

“Go!” Mickey waved his hands. “Go get Lucas. Find out what’s going on!”

Adam looked around the shop.

“It’s already started to rain. It’s going to be a slow afternoon but if I need help, I’ll call one of the part-timers. Go!”

It might make him a horrible friend, but Adam didn’t waste any more time. He ran for the door and was out and across the street, rain drenching him before Mickey could make another comment.

The door to the tattoo shop was locked so he banged on the glass. Green still hadn’t responded, and Adam was finding it hard to catch his breath. He pounded on the glass, knowing that a panic attack wasn’t too far away. It had been years since Adam had suffered from any kind of anxiety or panic attack. He panted as fear caught in his throat. He couldn’t deal with this terror again. He was safe in Rocky Lake. Even with the trouble they’d had lately, Adam had handled everything thrown at him, but it must have finally been too much.

His vision narrowed and Adam knew he was about to pass out.

“Adam! Baby!”

Strong arms wrapped around him while soothing sounds vibrated against his ear.

Adam gasped. He knew how to handle this. All he had to do was breathe. Concentrate on what was real, not the fear trying to take him over. The tightness of the arms around him, surrounding him. The scent of leather and spice tickled his senses. Yes, everything would be okay. It was fine. He was good.

“I got you. It’s okay, baby. Just breathe for me. Take your time.”

Closing his eyes as tight as he could, Adam tried to focus on the voice next to his ear and nothing else.

Lucas never stopped speaking. And yes, Adam now knew it was Lucas holding him. Flexing his fingers, Adam was able to make his body start to respond. He clutched at the soft T-shirt that Lucas wore before finally feeling like the weight in his chest was evaporating.

“Don’t rush it, baby. Let me hold you. Just relax.”

He knew there was something that he was forgetting. A memory in the back of his brain that was just out of reach.

“That’s it. You’re doing better. I’m so proud of you, baby. Good job. Keep breathing.”
