Had anyone ever told him that they were proud of him? Adam didn’t think so. Lucas was though. Adam might not know what he’d done to hear those words, but he wanted to do it again and again.

He sniffed Lucas’s throat like he would if he had his blankie. He really wanted his blankie at that moment, but Adam wasn’t at home. He wanted to go home and crawl into bed. His body was already starting to ache and that would just get worse.

“Hey, baby!” Lucas lifted Adam’s face before wiping his cheeks.

Had Adam been crying? He might not remember that, but it wouldn’t be unusual. Even though it had been years, Adam had once been very familiar with panic attacks.

Without having any other choice, Adam opened his eyes. Lucas’s concerned gaze met his and Lucas nodded.

“Don’t move yet. Listen to my voice. Feel my arms around you. It’s safe here. You’re safe. I will not let anything happen to you.”

More tears gathered.

Adam was older now. He’d worked hard to build his new life. Having met Lucas and Nash—

He gasped. “Nash!”

Lucas smiled. “I’ll call him and ask if he’ll stop by.”

Adam was already shaking his head. Nash couldn’t come to him. That was why Adam had run over. “Na…Nash!”

The shaking began again.

“Calm, Adam, breathe. Can you feel my fingers? One…two…three…”

Adam silently counted with Lucas as he flexed each finger against Adam. It worked and the fear passed.

“Better. Great job, baby.”

He needed to get the words out. This wasn’t supposed to be about him. “Nash…” He sucked in a long deep breath.

“Did something happen with Nash?” Lucas asked.

“Hurt, last night, hospital.”

“Nash was hurt?” Lucas spoke low, but there was something in his tone that showed his displeasure. “Why weren’t we told?”

Adam shook his head. He had no idea. Was it just lucky that Green had Nash’s phone? Wait! Why did Green have Nash’s phone anyway?

Since he didn’t have answers, Adam shoved his phone against Lucas’s chest.

Lucas caught the little device before it could fall. With one arm still around Adam, Lucas scrolled through the message still up.

Peering around, Adam realized they were on a couch in the reception area of the tattoo shop. Adam had no recollection of getting inside or how he ended up in Lucas’s lap. Not that Adam would ever complain about being in Lucas’s embrace.

“I hate to move you,” Lucas said. “I know you want to get to the hospital though.”

Adam nodded.

“Okay, let me lock up and then I’ll drive you.”

“Work,” Adam managed. After an incident it was always hard to get himself back on track.

“The guys can handle my clients or Trick will reschedule. It’s okay, baby. You let me worry about it. Stay here and rest.”

Lucas set him to the side, but Adam shot his hand out to capture Lucas’s wrist.

“Baby?”
