“Stay with you?”
“Yes, we can discuss it later, but I want you to think about it.”
Adam was sure he wouldn’t be able to think about anything else. Instead of responding, he frowned. “You’re getting wet.”
“And I’m letting the rain in the truck.” He kissed Adam again. “Let’s get going.” He closed the door before hurrying around the front of the truck.
Watching Lucas closely, Adam felt giddy. Lucas wanted him and Nash in his apartment? Of course, Adam would want to help take care of Nash but what did the invitation mean? After the previous night, would they be sleeping in separate rooms or…
Wow, now Adam was getting hot.
Lucas opened the driver’s door and jumped in before closing the door quickly. He was dripping with rain. And damn, Lucas looked good wet. Nash would be upset he missed it.
An idea hit and Adam lifted his phone and took a picture of Lucas.
“Did you take my picture, baby?”
“It’s for Nash,” Adam replied. “He’ll be so sad that he missed you all wet.”
Lucas shook his head, but he was smiling as he started the engine. “What did I say about encouraging Nash?”
Adam play-frowned. “That you love it?”
“Keep it up, baby, and you might find yourself enjoying some corner time.”
“Might be worth it,” he mumbled then ducked his head as Lucas lifted a brow.
Chapter Five
Lucas
It was too easy to get Nash’s room information and get Adam up to the fifth floor of the hospital. No one questioned his or Adam’s presence. Seeing that Nash had been injured in the line of duty, Lucas had expected more security.
They reached Nash’s door before they ran into resistance. A uniformed cop held up a hand to stop them. “Names?”
“Adam. Adam Carter,” his baby replied quietly.
Lucas opened his mouth to state his name, but the cop was already waving them inside. Huh, that was weird.
He pushed the door open, and Adam rushed from his side to where Nash lay with his eyes closed.
“What happened?” Lucas demanded of the two men in rumpled suits sitting in chairs next to the bed.
“Who are you?” the smaller one responded harshly as he rose.
Well, that was a complicated question and Lucas didn’t feel like getting into it. “What. Happened?”
“Hey,” The taller man in the blue suit stood and gripped the shorter man’s shoulder. “Let’s all take a minute here.”
Glancing at Adam to see him biting his lip as he hovered close to Nash, Lucas couldn’t find it in himself to be very friendly. His boy was hurt, and Lucas hadn’t known. “Someone tell me what the fuck happened to Nash.”
“Listen, asshole!” The shorter man stepped forward. “I don’t know who you are—”
“I’m his boyfriend,” Lucas growled out.
“Adam has a boyfriend?” the shorter man asked with a scowl.
“Green!” The taller detective, Lucas could see his badge now, bumped against Green’s shoulder.
