“What?” Green sneered. “We both know that Nash is interested in Adam. If he has a boyfriend—”

“It’s none of our business.” The tall detective moved fast, blocking his partner’s face. “Detective Rodriguez.”

“Lucas Van Blair.” They shook. “And I meant that I’m both of their boyfriends. Adam and Nash.”

“You what now?” Green demanded.

“Is he going to be okay?” Adam’s quiet voice broke the tension.

Green immediately stepped back and his face softened before he turned to Adam. “Yes, he should be fine. He has a broken leg, so he’ll be off work for a while which he is pissed about, but other than some bruises, he’ll be fine. He’s really lucky! As soon as I saw him get thrown from the balcony, I thought he was a goner for sure.”

“Thrown off a balcony!” Adam screeched.

“Shit!” Rodriguez pushed Green back. “Dumbass, that is not the way to tell them.”

Green grumbled but his cell phone rang, and he walked to the corner of the room. Good riddance.

Lucas walked behind Adam to pull his baby against his chest.

“He looks so hurt,” Adam whispered.

The entire left side of Nash’s face was bruised, and he had white wrapping around his waist and a white cast sticking out from under the blanket.

Rodriguez joined them, standing on the opposite side of the bed. “He really was lucky. We were on the second floor of the garage and thought it was empty. The owner, the one we were looking for, came out of nowhere and tackled Nash. They both crashed through the rail and down to the floor of the shop. Nash managed to roll them and the other guy landed first. He’s pretty fucked-up but he deserves it. They have him in ICU.”

Adam shook.

“It’s okay, baby. Look at him. He’ll be back up and smarting off before we know it.”

“Yeah.” Adam nodded but didn’t sound so sure.

“Why don’t you sit in a chair next to him?” Lucas suggested.

Adam glanced toward Rodriguez.

Lucas dared the man to deny Adam his place.

“Please do, Adam. Nash would want to see you as soon as he wakes up. They have him on some pretty heavy meds because they had to set his leg, but we didn’t want to leave him alone.”

“Okay.” Adam scrambled around to the other side of the bed as Rodriguez moved to the end. His baby grasped Nash’s hands between his and Lucas didn’t think Adam would take his eyes off Nash until the boy woke up.

“I understand, L.T.” Green grunted. “I didn’t know that!”

Rodriguez shook his head. “The lieutenant is going to have Green’s ass for this.

“Nash’s injuries?” Had the other detective fucked up? Sure, people made mistakes, but Lucas never wanted to see one of his boys in a hospital bed again. It had nearly sent him into a rage when Adam had been banging on the door with tears streaming down his face.

It had taken Lucas several moments to realize that Adam had been lost in a full-blown panic attack. He’d responded immediately and had gotten Adam inside the shop, but it had broken his heart as his baby struggled to breathe.

Trick’s panic attacks were very rare but everyone in the shop knew what to do for him. Some of them, like Lucas, could hold Trick and talk him through the attack.

“Nah man, we all messed up on the raid. That man should never had gotten past the officers in the hall. But I’m talking about the way Adam found out. The lieutenant is pissed.”

“Yes, sir!” Green snapped. He stomped across the room before holding out his phone.

Lucas lifted a brow. He was not happy with Green, and the young detective needed to get rid of the attitude.

“Lieutenant Cirillo wants to talk to you,” Green finally said.
