They’d talked about that. Adam had pushed Maverick to leave.

“I’m so fucking sorry, Adam. Can you ever forgive me?”

But there wasn’t anything to really forgive, was there? Maverick had left to give them a chance of a better life but there had been no guarantees. Adam couldn’t say what he would have done. He didn’t blame Maverick and Adam was happy with his life. He ended up where he was supposed to be.

“Adam?”

Adam rose. “There is nothing to forgive.” He opened his arms. “I missed you, brother.”

Maverick rushed him and Adam found himself being held tightly to his brother’s chest as the front door slammed open.

Both Maverick and Adam turned.

Lucas hovered in the front door opening with Nash behind his shoulder.

“Boyfriend?” Maverick questioned.

Adam grinned. “Both of them.”

Chapter Fourteen

Lucas

“Both of them.”

Lucas ran his gaze over Adam to ensure that his baby was well before turning his attention to the stranger. There was a similarity between Adam and his brother. They were close in height and build but there was a hardness in Maverick’s eyes that Adam didn’t possess.

It had taken time to get through the phone chain of messages. Lucas had just finished with a client when Nash’s frantic text messages had started to come in. Lucas hadn’t understood much at first. Something about a missing brother and Nash was headed home. It had taken a phone call to Sam, after Adam hadn’t answered, to get the full story and find out that Adam was at the apartment.

Nash had arrived just as Lucas had headed for the stairs.

“Uh, guy with one good leg back here,” Nash bitched.

“Nash!” Adam rushed from his brother’s side and raced over. He grinned at Lucas before reaching out for Nash. “You okay?”

“Be better if I could sit,” Nash mumbled. “I might have fallen a few steps when I was rushing out of the office.”

Fuck! Lucas hadn’t even checked on Nash. He moved to the side. “Come on.”

Nash nodded with his arm around Adam’s shoulder. He struggled to get through the door and over to the couch. He plopped down before pulling Adam next to him. The hard look Nash was giving to Maverick did not speak of this meeting going well.

“Hey guys. This is my brother,” Adam said. “Maverick.”

“Maverick.” Lucas strode forward. “Lucas Van Blair. That’s Nash Johnson.”

“Adam’s two boyfriends.” Maverick stressed the number.

“Yep, they’re both mine,” Adam said.

The pride in his chest was pushed down when Maverick frowned. Was his brother homophobic or did he not like that they were a throuple?

“Damn, bro,” Maverick drawled. “Nice.”

Luca laughed as he offered his hand. “Yeah, your brother has us wrapped around his little finger. Nice to meet you.”

“You too. Sorry to barge in like this. It isn’t like I had my brother’s phone number.”

“You could have called the coffee shop,” Nash said.
