“Yeah, I’ll probably make more sense in the morning. I don’t want you guys mad at me.”

“We’re not going to be mad at you, baby. I promise. Not about anything.”

“Okay.” Nash stepped into the boxers that Lucas held out for him. “I won’t be gone long.”

“Gone?” Lucas pulled the boxers up before Nash fell onto the mattress. He curled around Adam, putting one hand around his waist. Nash sighed deeply into the back of Adam’s neck.

“Not for long,” Nash mumbled. “Will miss you guys.”

“Nash?”

He was already snoring, and Lucas wondered what Nash had been talking about. Where would he be going and why? Lucas would get to the bottom of that in the morning. He was too fucking tired to think any more. Walking around the room, Lucas turned off the TV and flipped off the lamp before going to the other side of the bed. He slid into the bed and reached for his two boys. His arms were full.

Chapter Sixteen

Nash

“No,” Adam gasped. “Why?”

“We need more information and the only way to get it is to do our own investigation. The L.T. is worried about the new lieutenant. He’s getting pushback. We already have the narcotics team on board.” Nash looked at him. “Let me do this for you.”

“It’s…it’s not about me. I got out. I’m safe.”

“You survived and I’m so thankful for that. But other kids are still being sent to the farm. Other women are still suffering. I want to do this for you and them.”

Adam pushed his plate away. “Then I’m coming with you.”

“No!” Nash and Lucas shouted at the same time.

Adam looked from one to the other. “Why not? I want to help too.”

“You have helped,” Nash said. “You and Maverick gave us the information that got us started. We wouldn’t know half of what we do if it wasn’t for you.”

“I left everyone else there. I didn’t even think about them when I took off. I just had to get away.” Adam didn’t like to think about those he left behind. Not that any had been friendly toward him or tried to help. They’d been in their own kind of torment though. He needed to do this and Nash and Lucas had to understand.

“That’s what you should have fucking done! Get out! I’ve read multiple testimonies of what happened there.” Nash pushed his chair back and stood. “You are not going anywhere near that fucking place.”

Adam jerked back. Nash had never raised his voice at him.

Lucas grabbed Nash’s wrist. “Boy.”

Nash glared at him. “No! I won’t allow it!”

“Allow it?” Adam stood too. “You’re not in charge of me. It doesn’t matter if I call a grown man Daddy or not. I’m an adult, Nash, and you don’t get to dictate what I do.” Did Nash think he was weak? Was that why he was so adamant?

“I can’t…I can’t get those stories out of my head. I can’t stand the thought of you going through—” Nash shook his head. “I love you and I can’t let you go back to that place.”

What? What had Nash just said? Surely Adam heard him wrong. “You love me?” No one other than Maverick had told him that.

“Of course I do!” Nash yelled. “I love both of you! You’re my entire world!” He looked utterly defeated.

“I love you too,” Adam said. The words were out of his mouth before Adam could even think about them.

“Wh…at?” Nash’s voice broke.

Adam finally understood that Nash was scared for him. Was hurting for him. Nash was doing his absolute best to protect Adam. He didn’t think Adam was weak. That wasn’t it at all. Nash loved him. Wow! This… How had he gotten so lucky? “I love you.” He turned to Lucas. “I love both of you. I’m not quite sure when it happened but I do.”

Lucas got on his feet and pulled Nash to his side before holding out his other hand to Adam. Of course, Adam was happy to rush to his side. His big sweet giant Daddy.
